Please help.

I have two 2630L.  Very nice camera.  All is fine if the camera is viewed in a browser or with the mydlink app  (iPad and Android).  However, the program used to view all the cameras at once on one screen on my Mac laptop is having a problem with the video streams from only the 2630L, not my other dlink cameras.   The OSD and picture "stutters", even through there is no packet loss according to the software.  There is often a green screen initially.  Have changed settings in the camera without benefit, but it isn't obvious what should be changed.

Contacted tech support for the software, and the suggestions were:

1. adjust any setting related to H.264 compression in the camera's settings pages. If it offers VBR vs CBR, try changing this.

QUESTION:  Can the H.264 compression be changed?  Where?

2.  change the bit rate. If it offers a "profile" option, try changing this (try "baseline").

QUESTION:  Where to change the bit rate?

3.  If the above two cannot be done or don't help, then the H.264 stream produced by these cameras is not compatible with Mac. The only option then would be to use the JPEG stream.

QUESTIONS:  Is the H.264 stream not compatible with my Mac?  The video in a browser and on mydlink app looks fine.  Has anyone here used a jpeg stream?  What's the advantage and disadvantage of a jpeg stream?

So to clarify - BOTH your NEWER 2630Ls aren't having a good time on the MAC?

All the settings you ask about are in the camera's F/W webpage, that means you log directly into the camera to set CBR/VBR and h264/JPEG etc.

The 1.00 manual is here, and should be the same as what you might see.

ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DCS-2630L/REVA/DCS-2630L_REVA_MANUAL_1.00_EN_US.PDF

So you need to log in to your router and find your 2630L IP address and try changing those settings.

I dont have a MAC so I don't know what optimal settings might be for your situation.

But generally - H264 through the phone apps is very nice frame rate and video quality.  MJPEG is quality but slow frame rate, but this is more compatible with older things like browsers that don't understand H264.

You don't mention which mac laptop you have, it could be old, and the camera is just too much for it.  You might need to select a different video profile that isn't 1080p.

Well, report back if you figure anything out.

Thanks.  Can see why you are Level 9!!.

My MacBookPro is not having a problem.  i7 processor, 16GB RAM.  As mentioned, the camera stream as viewed by a web browser is fine.  The problem is the software doesn't handle the 2630L well.  The other d-link cameras look fine.  This software allows four or more cameras to be seen in one window.  The author asked me to make changes to see if this software can work with the 2630L, hence my questions.

I just located a different software and it works great on the 2630L at least for plain viewing.  Haven't tested anything else.

Did not see a way to change H.264 compression, frame rate/video quality, and bit rate.  Haven't read that manual yet.

I have exactly the same problem with SecuritySpy on MacOS.  My laptop is more than capable and web viewer works fine, it's just the stream from the 2630L to this particular software is glitchy, flashing green screen which even shows up on recordings.  I've tried changing the play1, 2, 3 stream settings and reduced framerate and recording quality right down to the minimum.  Although the MJPEG stream is smooth, the quality is terrible (even in high quality stream) so that's not really an option.

I'm thinking it's the software.  Unfortunately there's no LAN port in the camera so we can't rule out WiFi connectivity - although the Web Browser View is great!

I'll follow this thread closely to see if anyone can solve this, otherwise will try another Application.  @MacUser - what did you end up using that worked?

Thanks.

Everything appears fine on my Win10 Laptop in IE11.  I even tried all 3 options. All images looked crisp and clear in IR in my kitchen.

Even my laptop is on WiFi to the router the 2630L is connected to.

Let's try some different questions - as your raised the possibility of wireless issues.  (I still honestly believe it's a mac thing)...

But - Are you all connected to 5Ghz?  Which router are you using?

Doesn't VLC Media Player have a MAC version?  You could try playing the streams in there if so.

Thanks RYAT3, I'll have a look at VLC however am fairly certain it's this particular Mac software which isn't handling the stream very well.  I'll wait to hear from MacUser also.  Old posts on their forum highlighted users experiencing a choppy stream with this camera also, so could be some sort of config thing.  I will play with the WiFi channels also and see how that goes.  I also have a Win10 machine which I will try with basic HDD recording SW.

Haha thanks FurryNutz for the insight.. yes I am well aware of VLC.   ???

The issue is definitely with the SecuritySpy Mac software.. I will have to reach out to the Dev and see what the issue is.
All other SW (VLC on macOS included) works fine at home, as well as over the air via mobile.
