I purchased the dwa-556 adapter and running on it on a custom built windows 7 64 bit computer and it doesn't work. I have tried the 1.40, 1.30 and generic drivers from the support page as well as the ones that came with the disk and connect manger, all of which do much worse then my laptop with a wireless G card. The adapter get between one and two bars (and none) while the laptop gets between three and four bars.
I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be any quick fixes for this issue but any help would be welcome. Luckily I hate the router I have so I'd like to know would upgrading the router to a dlink wireless N router fix this speed issues without screwing over the other computers in my house?
