problem with my setup
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:00:20 AM »

Hi,
I have this setup at home:

INTERNET ---- Wireless Modem ------- DIR-655
                    192.168.1.1             192.168.69.1 LAN / 192.168.1.2 WLAN
                    255.255.255.0          255.255.255.0
                         |                             |
                         |                             |
                    machine1                   server

I need to connect the "machine1" to the server, but because is in another network I cant.
I tried to change the LAN subnet mask to 255.255.0.0 or the lLAN IP to 192.168.3 but gives conflict error with WLAN.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks

Why are you still using the Wireless modem?
DIR-655 has same features at Wireless level.

What also could be required is opening the firewall on the DIR-655 to the server with a specific port. No information on what the server is hosting came with your details on the current setup.

The wireless modem is for G products to connect and leave the 655 only for N. The difference in speed is from 600KB/s to 7MB/s in my machine when I have 4 computers turn on.

The server is just a media server, so all machines can connect.

you can disable the dhcp on the dir-655 and don't use the wan port but lan 1 , the router will work as a accespoint and you can connect to server1,  if you set dir-655 ip to 192.168.1.245 ,that is the way to manage the dir-655
