Title: Youtube problems
Post by: pok2041 on November 06, 2012, 05:46:27 PM
Hi, first my trouble is that Youtube's video won't load anymore. I first thought it was a PC side trouble. Did everything, even formated my pc, reinstalling everything, still won't load. I can acces every other internet pages. I got 1 desktop (wired), 2 laptops (Wireless) and an IPhone connected to this router, on all of the Youtube video won't load.

Here is some information about my ISP
Location: Québec, Canada
ISP: Vidéotron
ISP wire: Cable ( Fiber )
ISP Modem: Arris TM722 ( Internet and homephone )

It's been about 2 months I got the Dlink DIR857 Media router, eveything was working well and suddently no more video's works from the past 3 weeks.

If you think it's about my ISP, I would say no cause I've been using them for 10 years now and the only other rentable ISP here in Québec doesn't equal the speed to this one

*** Edit #1: I just thought about looking for a Firmware update on the Router itself, saw there's one available, I'll update it and see what happen after. If youtube works I'll cancel this thread, if not I'll leave it like this without any re-edit

I have Videotron in Quebec, YouTube wouldn't work on SOME devices but would on others.

It now consistently works everywhere since I input proper IPv6 settings in my DIR-857.  I couldn't tell you why, but maybe you want to try it out:
http://support.videotron.com/residential/internet/ipv6

Details are as follows:
My IPv6 Connection is 6rd.
Enable Hub and Spoke Mode :    Yes.
6rd Configuration : 6rd DHCPv4 Option

I also set my IPv6 DNS to Google's:
2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844

If you do try it out, let us know if it helps...  I'm curious to know if that's truly what fixed it (I was trying everything at the time!).

À bientôt,
MagicPoncho

Does the IPv4 platform exhibit any youtube problems or was this only an IPv6 configuration issue?

ok so I did take a look into my IPV6 config and it's all configured correctly, also did the ipv6 test on the videotron.com pages ( like a speedtest ) and Im receiving 32mbps download and the 4mbps upload, so the internet speed ain't a trouble. Just the video that doesn't load. Really getting pissed about that trouble, looks like there's no fix. Formating the pc wasn't a solution so what can I do :/

Does the IPv4 platform exhibit the same problems?

What model Arris modem do you have?

Also, Ask you ISP if they have any specific MTU values? Usually Cable is 1500 and DSL is any where from 1454 up to 1492.

Ok so to the Vidéotron store they told me they couldn't do anything, that I had to call the technical service.

Last night at my friend's home I talk to him about the trouble I was getting, he asked me some of my information to get Inside my router and I didn't bother about giving it to him, but we were talking about other stuff too so I didn't really asked him what he was going to do with my Router's information. Today about 16 hours after I tried youtube and it did start instantly without trouble, I was like wtf how come it works now so I texted my friend and told him, he told me that last night he fixed it by changing an option into the router. But now he can't remember it .. he told me about " Traffic " something, an option to put to "On"

Once I see him we're going to take a closer look so I can tell you exactly what he did

Please take a screen capture of the section he changed.

Might be Traffic Shaping however i think that ON by default.

Please get full details of what he did please. Keep testing to see how it works. Keep us posted.

Well it did works for at least 1 week or so .. but now it doesn't work anymore. Only thing I did from those days was to change my computer location ( did a lan at friends home ) and now just plugged it back and no more videos works .. so I'm going to make him come over my place to take a look at it .. and for sure i'll take a screenshot

I am curious to see the outcome.

If any other Videotron customer has this issue, could you try logging into your router and go to setup/IPv6, then manual then manual IPv6 internet connection setup. Then set the mode from "auto-detection" to "Link local only"/"local connectivity only".

After looking at the thread it IPv6 is possibly a big clue in this. Reason being is if you bypass the router or use another older router (non IPv6) it works. A router is a router is a router. It should not discriminate a site. It's all just IP addresses at the end of the day. The DIR series routers are set to auto-detect and it would pull the 6RD address from the ISP. If there is a IPv6 DNS or routing issue it could cause the site to not work or stream. So the theory is if you put it to link local it will only use IPv4 on the WAN side and act more like the "other" modem you have in your drawer that works fine.

Awesome info DD. We've been following this on the 825 forum as others with Videotron have been complaining that the DIR-835 is doing the same thing. I will link this to that thread and see if maybe this might help them. As far as I know, only people with Videotron and DLink routers seem to exhibit this odd behavior with sites.

I'm hoping that the OP will come back with information on how his was set up and had it going at one point.

Any and all info is helpful. Thank your for posting.

Folks, however frustrated I am with D-Link non existent support, I decided to post the solution that fixed my problems.

The problem lies with IPv6 client configuration. Go to Network & Sharing Center, Change adapter settings and properties of your lan connection.

Untick Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). Do this for all you devices connected to the router. For other devices that cannot be configured, also disable all router IPv6 features. Couldn't tell you what for the D-Link because I replaced it with a Cisco since (had the same problem).

So it is truly a configuration problem. As for the exact interaction with the Videotron equipment or network, I think they don't support IPv6 - not sure what they advertise.

Hope this fixes your as well. Also I use SImple AdBlock in IE9 to remove all ads in youtube, I don't want my kids brains filled with garbage...

Hey Rogerrabbit.

Thank you for sharing your info. Been waiting and wondering if there was a solution to this. Sure is odd that IPv6 would effect connections to specific sites even with a IPv4 connection also being established so you figured connections would be going there ok.

What OS platform are you using?

Again, thanks for the information and hope this will help resolve this issue between DLink routers and Videotron.

FYI, seems like this problem has been resolved by other users with Videotron ISP and IPv6 Configurations:

Hi,

We have carefully read your comments regarding an issue relating to YouTube and other streaming sites with some recent D-Link routers (including the DIR-835) connected to Videotron's network. This problem is related to IPv6 MTU and has been confirmed by D-Link. A fix will be available in future versions of the firmware for these routers (versions above 1.03 for the DIR-835).

The temporary workaround to solve this issue is to select "6rd" rather than "Auto Detection" as the IPv6 Internet Connection:
1. Login to your routeur web interface (http://192.168.0.1) with the "admin" username.
2. Select Setup at the top, then IPv6 on the left.
3. Click "Manual IPv6 Internet Connection Setup" near the bottom of the page.
4. In the field "My IPv6 Connection is:", select 6rd (second-last option in the menu).
5. Hit "Save Settings". You will be asked to reboot the routeur.

This issue does not affect Videotron-branded DIR-825 routers.

We hope this information will be helpful to you and we remain available to answer your questions regarding our products and services by phone, chat and email: http://bit.ly/LNGzRk, we also available on Facebook/Videotron and Twitter @Videotron.

Thank you for posting and confirming the information. I hope this will help users of the DIR-835 and other model routers that support IPv6 working on the Videotron ISP service. This seemed to be an isolated issue between DLink routers and Videotron ISP and glad it's being resolved and that there will be a fix forth coming.

Thank you.

Enjoy.

Hey ho so here I'm back, after wondering what it could be I had no ideo. Changed the wire between my modem and the router, did not work. So I thought maybe changing from D-link to Linksys Cisco ( another top model, the EA4500 ) You know what guys,  still wouldn't work.

That pissed me off, I called my ISP and the told me to plug it directly from Modem to Computer, Youtube worked so they wouldn't take care of my trouble.

What I first did, plug back in the Linksys, get into the configuration, it was saying that I wasn't on the iPv6, so I activated it, but the ADDRESS AUTOCONFIGURATION SETTINGS wasn't at the good setting, was asking for an update every 1400sec. I changed it to be like a MAC adress. It did work with the linksys, I had youtube working. SO I thought maybe to try it with the Dlink.

I put back my D-Link DIR-857 Media Server, went into Setup, iPv6 then Manual IPv6 Internet Connection Setup. At ADDRESS AUTOCONFIGURATION SETTINGS Under it, there's Enable automatic IPv6 address assignment Checked, Enable Automatic DHCP-PD in LAN checked, Autoconfiguration Type : ***Put it to Stateful DHCPv6****
And reboot your router. After that it should work, since it is for me !!

Hope it will also work for you ;)

Glad you got it working. I bet this might not be an issue if IPv6 was set to LOCAL CONNECTION ONLY  or just disabled IPv6 too and tested IPv4 only using a IPv4 connection to youtube.

Glad you got yours working. Enjoy the 857. I do.

 ;)

Screw it just saw the iPv6 has a 1440min timer that I can't remove. Once I get home I'll take a look closer.
