I use this DAP-1522  device in bridge-mode.

Just, recently, I must now repeatedly RE-BOOT the DAP-1522
(via the browser-interface or by a PWR re-cyle)
to reestablish a connection to the remote wireless-router.

This device looses connectivity to remote-router (wireless) after an indeterminate (semi-random) amount of time ( or xxx? k-bits xfr'd? )

After the reboot on the DAP-1522, the bridge mode works in a satisfactory manner for a while, till it again loses it's connection and must be re-booted.

This problem is quite annoying.

IS this issue an indication of a defective DAP-1522 or an incorrect setting?

Thanks for you assistance.

I had a similar problem , but it was the router causing the problem . See if any other computer or wireless device loses connectivity off the main router . If only the 1522 loses connection it might be going bad . In my case the router was going , when I replaced it 1522 did not lose connection and need reboots

Yes, through testing, I had already eliminated the routers as the source of problem.
... the remote router continued to work seamlessly for other wireless clients and my local router never lost it's connections to it's clients including the DAP-1522 for frequent "re-booting".

 SOLUTION: ( ? )
I changed the wireless-fixed-channel on the remote-router to CH:1 from CH: 4 ....

Simplistically, that seems to have REMEDIED my issue.

While CH:4 was unused by other nearby WiFi routers , apparently the side-bands were too congested causing drop-outs or something ???

Interestingly, even though signal strenth on CH:1 is still strong ( ~98% ),
the reported connection speed has now dropped to ~80Mbps from the previous 130+Mbps

I have this EXACT same problem. Anyone have a working solution? Or at least something I can try? Thanks :)

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off the QOS... This setting causes the DAP-1522 to malfunction with many of the routers out there (including D-Link routers) when turned on.

I upgraded to a DIR-857 D-Link wireless router.  I can now leave QOS turned on an the DAP-1522s no longer malfunction.  When I was using a D-Link DGL-4500, I had to leave QOS turned off in order to make things work.

Good job D-Link  ???

I would think that having multiple QoS processes running would not be a good thing. I would turn OFF ALL QoS and test. The use only QoS on the host router. Do the DAPs have WMM Enable options? If so I would turn these off as these are supposed to be QoS related options.

QOS should be originated by the client and supported by the router and anything else upstream.  With ethernet, QOS is implemented by adding a QOS header to the ethernet frame.

This Wikipedia article is pretty good at describing the technology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.1p

Well thats informational and may not be the standard for all Mfrs either or they would follow to the letter. Some of this stuff is proprietary on some level. And each Mfr may do some things a bit differently.

QoS should be handled by the host router as it's the main function of the router to ensure QoS is being handled correctly since it's the main AP for Internet and WiFi. The DAPs are just APs and relaying the data from WiFi clients to the router. I wouldn't see a need for QoS on DAPs since your just trying to get from point to point and to the router.

I let the router handle all QoS when needed and the APs are wide open for connection and traffic.

As I said earlier, the DAP-1522 originated QOS priority works properly with the DIR-857 but not with the DGL-4500.  I use one of my DAP-1522s as a media bridge (5 ghz) to a DIR-857 wireless router to  handle video streaming and I use a QOS of "Video" for the local port (on the DAP-1522) to which I have a media receiver connected.  This setup works great!  No lags!  No lost sync with voice!  No awful pauses waiting for the video stream to "catch up".  Everything cleared up and started working correctly when I replaced my DGL-4500 and enabled the QOS on the DAP-1522.  What can I say...  :D

Had you used the Gamefuel settings on the 4500? Funny, I have never seen any issues with my 4500 and watching video, streaming or gaming.

Re: DAP-1522 (bridge-mode) loosing connection to remote wireless-router
« Reply #11 on: April 11, 2012, 01:27:27 AM »

My media receivers are actually a Smart LG television and a "Smart" Sony BluRay player and a WD Live Media Receiver and a Sony PS3 in addition to XBMC software running on a couple of notepad computers - all wirelessly connected.  I also use DLNA services hosted by the Servio software running on my HP Media Server plus the Media Services running on my NAS - a Dlink DNS-323 plus whatever media is being published on my LAN via the Windows Media Player on each Windows box.  My HP Media Server and my DNS-323 are physically connected (hard-wired) to my wireless router because these are the most heavily accessed devices on my LAN for purposes of accessing media (video, music, photographs).

Now its simply way too difficult to configure GameFuel on the DLG-4500 for these types of applications.  Ethernet port addresses can dynamically shift and heaven knows what port addresses the LG Television and the Sony BluRay player and the UPNP implementation of DLNA use to support the streaming client applications that LG and Sony and WD provide.  I also believe that the port addresses for these applications can dynamically shift to accommodate multiple media streams.  Configuring GameFuel would be a nightmare with little probability of success... QoS is really the best way in this type of environment.

What I can say is that the combination of DGL-4500 and DAP-1522 was less than satisfactory.  This is why I upgraded to the DIR-857.  As a bonus, the QoS on the DAP-1522 started to behave properly (probably because the DIR-857 supports VPN and has a built-in QoS engine).   The DAP-1522 allows me to set QoS priority using the number of the connector port and hence it becomes easy to say that port-1 is for the BLuRay player, port-2 is for the TV, etc.

Things are working really well for me now.  My network can accommodate multiple concurrent media streams plus all the "normal" network traffic without throwing a tantrum or suffering that annoying pause while the media receivers "wait" for the data to catch-up (which used to happen if some-else had a download going or was playing a particularly demanding game)...  When I put in the DIR-857 and configured the DAP-1522s for QoS everything just worked!

You do understand that QoS and Gamefuel are one in the same...

Configuring QoS or GF is easy. Ports don't really change. Most ports that applications use are fairly open and static. Specially gaming and such.

Seems like a fairly complex setup you have. Sounds nice and all however sometimes simplifying systems should be reviewed.

Sounds like the 857 has been a good addition to yours however.

I'm not sure that the QoS implementation on the DAP-1522 is the same as GF.  The DAP-1522 QoS settings look a lot more like the settings for the WISH features than they do for the GF features...  Also, with the DAP-1522 you don't need to worry about IP addresses or IP port numbers, the QoS can be setup to prioritize the "physical ethernet connector" that is being used on the back of the DAP-1522.  This is a really great feature if it is difficult to isolate what IP addresses and what IP port numbers are being used by your media receiver(s).  With the DAP-1522, you just plug your media receiver into the back of the DAP-1522 and prioritize that physical connection the way that it needs to be prioritized - this is a really simple and elegant solution - plus it satisfies the condition that QoS should really be set by the "client side" and that the QoS should be honored by the router and everything else upstream of the connection.  I don't know if the D-Link implementation is really this good or not, but I do see that the DIR-857 supports WISH, has a QoS engine, and looks like it has some ability to pass QoS information upstream via the WAN port (or maybe it just prioritizes which ethernet packets go first).  Either way, it just works!  The DGL-4500 didn't work nearly as well (I got a lot of pauses on my media receivers waiting for the data to catch-up both when streaming from the internet and sometimes streaming from my local servers).  With the DIR-857 / DAP-1522 priorized QoS, I haven't had any pauses at all!

Now the DIR-857 provides for both automatic QoS priorities and automatic WISH priorities and these seem to be working in conjunction with however D-Link implemented QoS on the  DAP-1522,  It just works!  It didn't work with the DGL-4500 (I reported this "bug" over a year ago and nothing was fixed).

Well I guess all that counts is thats its working for you now.
Keep that 4500 on hand. Still a great router. Could use it as an AP.

Enjoy.
