Please add Radius Support, its a bummer that this Top off the line Device doesn't have this Basic Feature available which even low end devices now a days have.

No big use or real need in a home environment or home class router. Most used in business and business class environments with services and access needs to services for business users.

Feature Request:
Product Code: DIR-882-US
Hardware Version: A1
Firmware Version: 1.20

I recently bought Dlink DIR-882 EXO router and updated the firmware to the latest 1.20.

I was wondering is there a way to put HDD connected via USB 3/2 port can be put to power saving mode or turn off the usb port when idle?

I see even when i am not accessing anything from HDD the USB HDD keeps spinning indefinitely. Ideally the router should have put the USB HDD to idle or power saving mode when it detects no activity is happening. Is there a way such a behavior can be achieved?

I tried exploring various configuration options but still i couldn't find any such setting.

I understand from support team that there is no way to set the USB port to power saving mode or turn it off when there is no active data traffic. Unfortunately the router's USB port cannot be configured as we wanted. Only settings you can configure for the device USB is under the USB sharing page which doesn't have any power saving options.

So, It would be really helpful if such an option is available or the firmware takes care of it by itself else the HDD keeps on spinning unnecessary causing poor hdd life. I even tried disabling all the options under "USB Sharing" but the HDD didnt stopped spinning. Also, there is no proper way to unmount it from WebUI and even after removing it from the usb port, the usb sharing page was still showing the same drive as still available. Only after rebooting the router, the usb sharing page correctly showed no usb device attached.

In Linux, there is a utility called hdparm which can be used to stop the drive from spinning. Atleast providing an option for unmounting the driver from webUI when you no longer need would be a really nice feature to have.

Most external drives are controlled by there own power controllers, not by routers.

However unsure if the router is constantly accessing the HDD or would have any impact on this.

Something you might ask D-Link support about.

Well, my hard disk doesnt have external power supply and yea it does have its own power supply management but it gets kicked in only when the HDD is idle which in this case is not happening. Also, there is no way to unmount the HDD on this router if you want to remove it or you just don't want to use it for sometime.

I raised the issue with dlink support already but they told they don't have a mechanism to control usb port from webUI but didn't mention anything about why router was using the HDD even when nobody was accessing it.

Also, mine is WD Elements Portable 1 TB HDD.

Most external drives are controlled by there own power controllers, not by routers.

Ya pretty much it is was it is. Its always mounted as most of the time for most general use, users want the drive mounted. Could be why the router maybe accessing it or the service keeps the drive running so that if as when a user does need something from it, its comes thru.

Nothing we can do about this.  :-\

Has anybody tried using Virtual Server setting on DIR-882-US? I am seeing an improper behaviour whereby virtual server setting works only if both internal and external ports are same else it doesn't do forwarding. I even tried rebooting the router after the configuration but it's still the same.

Example (Local IP in both case is same):
1) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 5022 - Doesn't work
2) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 22 - Works

If I want to use both internal & external port same then I can use port forwarding menu so typically virtual server option doesn't seem to be working on latest firmware 1.20 with hardware A1.

Was a factory reset and setup from scratch performed after you installed v1.20?

Yes as directed, I already reseted the router and reconfigured it again after the update. Also, I am trying to configure virtual server settings only after the reset.

Never tried that, recently bought this router and the first thing I did was upgrade to the latest firmware.

Did this work with older firmware?
