Author Topic: DIR-628 Not Working. Powers ON with Blinking Lights. No Internet Connectivity.  (Read 24488 times)

I have had the DIR-628 for many years. It stays on 24/7. Over the years I had some minor issues but a re-cycle would always fix it.

Today, out of the blue, it will not connect to the internet. I tried:

Different Ethernet cables.
Unplugging. Waiting for an hour then plugging in again.
Using the Re-Set button on the back.

When I go from Cable Modem (Motorola SB6120) directly to the computer I get a working Internet connection.

Going from Cable Modem to "Internet" port on the back of the DIR-628 I get front panel flashing/blinking lights then they go dark then back on. Over and over again.

I have Comcast Internet Sevice
DIR-628 Hardware Version A1
DIR-628 Firmware 1.24? Can't get into router settings to confirm.

I need to know if the router has failed and needs to be replaced. It's OK if it does, I just want to know ASAP instead of wasting time trying to fix it. I'm sure the cost of shipping and repairing would cover the cost of buying a new router instead.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Oddly, I too have Comcast, a DIR-628 and the exact situation that you described (and it occurred on the same day).   ???  Either an odd coincidence or this isn't just random hardware failure.

I guess I wasn't sufficiently clear.  I have the exact same hardware, service, and problems and have tried the exact same things to no avail.  Thus I have nothing else to contribute other than the observation that it is quite peculiar that we suffered the same issue on the same day.

I do not believe this is the problem, because it only occurred a few days ago.  Regardless, the router configuration page is inaccessible now that my lights are all blinking.

Has a factory reset been done using the back button?

You could try this and see if you can get the FW to recover:
Emergency Recovery Mode

If either of these fail, I recommend phone contacting D-Link support and get a RMA started.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried the factory reset as described on the linked page, but nothing I do alters the current pattern of blinking lights (as described by original poster) or gives me access to the router configuration page.  I've had the router for a few years, so at this point I doubt there is much point in pursuing an RMA.  Thanks for your attempts to help.

Any status on this?
