I have a DCS-8000LH with firmware 2.01.03 which I belive is the latest version.
But every time I log in to mydlink app I get a notice that firmware upgrade has failed because of a timeout and to try again.
I have tried resets, connect it to several different wifis but get the sam result.
This makes the camera/app useless.
What to do?

I have exactly the same problem. I have to wait about 30 seconds for it to work. I suspect this is also what is causing Google Home to give an error the first time you click or tell it to show the camera on a chromecast.

What hardware revision do you both have?
There may be an issue on the mydlink servers. i will ask the US tech support guys to see if they have seen this issue.
Please contact tech support in your country to report the issue. Let them know you have reset the cameras, etc. They can report the issue to the engineers.

I have Rev A1.
I opened a support case with dlink. They suggested installing the app on another device.
I installed Mydlink app on an >5 year old Samsung tablet. No warning.
I installed on my wifes Huawei P20 Lite. No warning.
Removed & reinstalled app on my phone, Huawei Honor 8, and the warning is there.
Some weird interaction between my app & my phone?

Hmm must be. What OS is on the Honor 8 phone?
