Title: I need to find my wireless password
Post by: btkinney on September 29, 2011, 09:33:47 AM
I set up this router awhile ago. I know my admin password. I'm trying to hookup a new wi-fi blu-ray, but forgot the WPA password. It shows 8 astrisk character places, but how do I see the characters so I can use them in the Samsung setup screen for the network access?
Thanks!

If you know your admin password then you can log into the routers web page and just change the wireless password to something new. Theres no way to recover PW.

I kinda thought I could do that, but I have another TV and Blu-Ray setup that's already configured from a year ago and I was hoping to avoid re-configuring those too.

BTW, I was looking at my "Network Connection" thru my Windows Vista and, if I understand, it shows my "wireless" network as "secure" but that my dlink is open. What do you recommend? And, should I go thru my 3-4 devices and get MAC addresses for them and do a MAC address thing? Or something else?

Finally, I think I tried to upgrade my firmware in the past and only got so far and it wouldn't upgrade to the most recent versions. Firmware Version : 2.20,  2007/05/30 is where I'm at, but I thought I should be able to get more current than that. Ideas?

Thanks for your prompt response!

Have you named the wireless broadcast from dlink? it's possible that other dlink routers are in the area that also have this same name. I'ts always recommended to rename the SSID.

Ya you'll need to configure the devices however it's only the name and pw.

If your device is working well, i would keep whats loaded. If you really want to up grade, you need to go to the Dlink web site and see if there is more recent FW and download it to your PC.

To upgrade do the following:
Factory reset the router.
Unpack the .bin file from the zip file you got from the web site and update it using the routers web page.
Factory reset once more.
Reconfigure the router for use.

Is your device compatible with WPS? That might be a work around
