I have an 850L model A (version 1.14WW, latest as of today). I want to set up Wake on lan. I am not able to forward port 9 to 192.168.0.255 because it says out of boundary.
There is a WOL preset in the virtual server. I am able to set up a reserved ip for my pc and do WOL from the internet. But this works till the router has not been turned off.
Please help me forward to my broadcast address.
I want to set up WOL from the internet.
And i will be often completely plugging out my pc and transferring to another room. So its important that it works even after everything has been shut down /plugged out before.
I am willing to pay $5 in PayPal if somebody is able to get it to work.
I will provide with more details if somebody asks.
Please help. I am nearly in tears :(

- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
"I am able to set up a reserved ip for my pc and do WOL from the internet. But this works till the router has not been turned off." <<<Huh? This doesn't make sense here...

I am in the USA.
When I say turned off, i mean turned off , and turned back on (restarted)
-
So WoL works up to the point when the router is turned OFF then back ON or Rebooted and WoL stops working?

I have dynamic ip thats assigned to me via the WAN port. University provides, not sure of details
WOL works as long as the ethernet has not been disconnected ONCE (and of course, reconnected) , OR if the router is restarted
-
Ok, so what are the steps you have to do to get WoL working after after the router has seen a reboot?
-
I :
- reset the router
- start server, wait for it to connect to router
- reserve an ip for it
- use virtual server's WOL preset and set ip to reserved ip
-
This server a PC?
Instead of using a Reserved IP address on the router, try using a Static IP address on the PC, that's outside of the default IP address pool of 100 thru 199.

does the dir 850l support any other firmware ?
I also have a cisco e2000 and after installing DD wrt custom firmware on it, WOL runs flawlessly.
If i can get some kind of ssh access to my router, i can locally send the magic packet to the broadcast ip address

Did you try setting a static IP address ON the PC instead of a reserved Ip address?

SSH won't work on any Dlink router I know, or really any consumer hardware for that matter. If your having to set a new DHCP reservation each time you reboot the router, there must be something keeping the IP from sticking. Can you show a screenshot of your forwarding rules? For example, if the IP your reserving is the same as a static IP somewhere on the network it won't work.
Also, do you have DDNS set up since your WAN IP will change?
Last, does the WOL packet work without a reset if your sending it from another computer on the local network?
-
Something else you may try is setting the PC into the router's DMZ for testing. See page 96 of the manual for instructions. That will get around the firewall dropping the packet, I just don't know how it will effect the port forwarding. If it worked, you could then set up a virtual server to open the port instead of the DMZ. I don't think normal port forwarding will work because the routers firewall is dropping port 9 by default.

Any status on this? ???

Not around here. :-( To be fair I think his campus lost power for a couple days.

I don't think you are going to get a response. OP found they aren't allowed to leave the PC on campus for them to WOL into. Latest post shows they have already moved out.
