If you have firmware 1.13 or lower, you must install version 1.15 first and then update to 1.21B05. Both firmware files are in the ZIP file.

Hi All:
I just applied the latest patch for DIR-895L, seems the patch has speed issues? The speed and signal on on my 5GHZ 2nd channel is non-existant (weak signal and very slow speed - speedtest). Prior on the 1.21 (before the KRACK patch) I was getting very good wireless speed and signal. Can someone have a look and let me know if ya are seeing the same? I tried the reset within the firmware and setup as brand new install (without loading the prior config) and same issue. I am just worried that in 06/2020 since this unit is EOL and DLINK wont fix it address the speed issue. They fix some security holes and broke something else?
I tried to mess around with other parameters and the same result, anyone with any thoughts? P.S. I am only using the router as AP.

- What region are you located?
If you reset the router after applying the FW and the 2nd 5Ghz radio isn't working, please revert back to v1.20 for now.
Is Smart Connect enabled?
What devices do you have connected to the 5Ghz radio.
Does the 1st 5Ghz radio work?

Hi. Thanks for the warm welcome. My DIR895L was capable of having the secondary 5GHZ at 300 / 250 (down/up) on the 1.21 firmware (prior to the updated KRACK patch). After, the upgrade to the KRACK patch, my secondary 5GHZ is weak weak signal are at 5 / 1 (down/up) speeds. All other settings are left intact. To further prove my point that the KRACK patch is issue, I rolled back to 1.21 (prior 2018 version) and I get the blazing 300 /250 (down / up) speed, SO I can conclude in my case there is some speed issue in the KRACK patch that is sowing down the secondary 5Ghz channel. You have the same problem? I already tried the factory reset and reconfig everything form fresh and same issue. It's definitely not any other setting or cable. I am using else the same, ONY updated the software. Any thoughts?
I am in the USA - N/A region. I disabled SmartConnect. 2.4Ghz and 5.1Ghz (primary) is working, but speed is a bit lower, 5.1GHz (secondary) is the problem child after the 1.21 KRACK update. The signal and speed is virtually non-existant; speed and signal is zero bars and speed is almost zero. I am using 2 Samsung phones on the 5.1Ghz secondary channel. I roleld back to 1.21 (2018 version) and get blazing signal & speed. So, I can conclude in my case, it's the 1.21 KRACK patch. Any ideas? Has anyone raised with DLINK?

I would revert back to v1.20 and confirm that the 2nd 5Ghz radio is working again.
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Just ran some tests on my 890L with v1.21 though i'm not sure if it has the same KRACK code in it or not, it was posted as a beta.

I saw better results with v1.20 with Smart Connect enabled.
Though I think 2.4ghz has a problem. :(
Speeds were good on 5ghz if the rate was high.
Not sure if this applies to the 895L, there the same platform, just higher speed rates are on the 895L vs 890L.

Hi FurryMutz, did you report the findings of v1.21 to DLINK for models 890 & 895? Any outcome from DLINK?

I would contact D-Link support and open a case. You can reference these threads to be included. Since these models are pretty much EOL not sure if D-Link will do anything. I would revert back to v1.20 and avoid v1.21.

Contact technical support but since these routers have been discontinued for years and is no longer supported other than security fixes do not expect any fixes or even be helped unless you have proof of purchase within 1 year. The DIR-885L and 895L end of development date is June 30th, 2020. After this date ZERO firmware will ever be created again including security fixes.
RESET YOU ROUTER AFTER YOU INSTALL 1.21, disable Smart Connect and do NOT use QoS. If no change, revert back to older firmware and risk the security issues, or may be time for a new router.

I think also the KRACK issue was for client side devices if I remember correctly, not the source AP so if the 895L was put in wireless bridge mode, then there may the KRACK risk then. If you use the 895L in router mode with v1.20 or prior the risk would be low or not relevant.
If your really concerned about it and stock FW won't work for you, you could try loading DD-WRT FW on it.

Correct. The KRACK issue was more client-side related and AP mode. This security fix was mode for updating DNSmasq and fixing the guest network always on issue.
This firmware is over 2 years old and this is the first I have heard about slow connectivity.

Any one near you that could confirm this on a 895L unit?
I don't have this model, though the 890L would be similar base wouldn't it?
Should I also file a support ticket with D-Link regarding this? Mine was a beta unit... :-\

WOW I found beta firmware from Europe that "fixes" the 5GHz issue. It is based on the 1.21B05 firmware so the security fixes are there.

Very nice find! I can indeed confirm that the European 1.21 Firmware now fixed the 5GHz - secondary channel issue on the DIR-895L router. The speed and signal is very good. On a side note I tested DD-WRT on DIR895L... it is lacking CTF (so on a wired connection speeds are pegged at about 300Mb). Also, WW-DRT firmware had the speed and signal issue on 5GHZ - secondary channel, no signal and slow slow speed. Thus, I reverted back to stock. And with this newly found European version is very good (speed & signal on 5GHz)... I'm not going back to DD-WRT. Thanks again guys. Good job.

Hello. I registered just to say thank you for the find of the EU firmware I was having so many issues with speed related to the 1.21b05 update and that "fix" bumped the average speedtest from 80 mb/s download on 5G to 500 mb/s on 5G. Wish there was a way to buy someone a beer on the Internet.
