I have hit what I can only describe as a brick wall with my DIR-885L and would appreciate any advice to remedy the situation. Here is the situation:
5Ghz -capable devices will connect fine
2.4Ghz only devices will not connect at all. They can see the router with a strong signal, but all fail to connect. They initially worked, but never worked well or stayed connected from one day to the next.
Steps I've taken to fix the issue, none have had any success:
1. factory reset and re-create SSID's and security.
2. disabled security
3. Created seperate SSID for 2.4Ghz channel
4. I was at the latest firmware, so downgraded to previous firmware release
5. Disabled QoS features
6. Disabled 40/20hz mode, went to 20Hz only
7. Scanned WiFi in my area, tried two unoccupied channels.
8. Disabled 5Ghz band.
9. Power-cycled router and cable modem several times throughout these steps.
As far as I can tell, the 2.4ghz devices are failing authentication, but they fail even with security disabled. Scratching my head on this one.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)
- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Temporarily set OPEN on 2.4Ghz. Do your devices connect then? The try setting WPA2 Personal only, manual channel 11 and Medium output power.
- Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) to find out. How many?
Is Smart Connect enabled on this router?

DIR-885L revA
Firmware I've tried 1.12 and 1.13
I've already tried setting setting 2.4Ghz open, same result, devices (tried two different 2.4Ghz only devices, both known good working) will see the SSID, but will not connect.
US region
I did a scan, and there were several other routers in the area on channel 1, so I moved to both 3 and 7, which scanner showed as unoccupied, same result.
Smart connect disabled. For this model, it has to be disabled to get into the more advanced WiFi settings.

Channels 1, 6 or 11 are primary channels to use.
Seems like this router needs to be reviewed by D-Link support. If your not getting devices connected even with OPEN security, something is wrong.
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
