Not sure if it's a firmware wish - but I think so.  Have 2 942L camera's that record correctly on my 327L. 2 things need to either set up - or easily set up.  1)  be able to access the "my surveillance" whrough the mydlink.com site and 2) be able to have the ftp function work with the camera's automatically so you can have the camera's record as AVI/MP4 files to the hard drive so they can be easily accessed remotely foir copy/transfer or whatever

Thanks

Dave

The first item sounds like a mydlink request, but I'll put it here for now...
For the FTP function, what do you mean by having the " ftp function work. . . automatically"?

The camera's I use (942L) have an option to send the video stream (when motion is detected) to a FTP.  The 327L can be set up as a FTP.  Followed what I think is the process but when I "test" the ftp setup in the camera setup - it fails.  Not sure if it's the 327L - the camera (942L) or maybe something on the router (845L).  Or just a plain old UBF  (user brain failure).  The 327L allows you to record the camera(s) within it "my surveillance" application - where and how is a mystery - it does it - as you can play them back - but using explorer or other file manager will not find the file on the network storage device (327L) - but I know it's there - just don't know exactly where.  The problem using this option is that I can not access it with mydlink (any of the my surveillance mode) again... maybe a failure on my part.  This is one of the reasons I want to use the 327 as a ftp - then the camera's would send the video clip as a avi or mp4 (my choice) which I can access through the mydlink portal.  It may take me a bit of time to reply as I am going into an "internet free zone" for a couple weeks so thanks in advance

Hi!

I've got 2 more points, i'd wish my dns327 would have.

  • App like pyLoad - to download from One Click Hoster

Added...  ;)

  • User restrictions for Folders on Volume_1: I mean, that a new User can just see one folder of Volume_1

You can configure the DNS-327L to restrict access to specific directories using group and user policies

Feature: Auto-Refresh on uPnP Server
-------------------------------------
Navigation: Management (Tab) > Application Management > Multimedia Services > UPnP AV Server Settings

Notice that 'uPnP server' does not have auto-refresh option. As a result, new files added into shared folder cannot be seen until manual refresh i.e. Files added on Transmission folder do not appear on TV using UPnP network Protocol.

This is not convenient as user will need to ask administrator to login and do manual refresh on DLINK NAS.

*click on manual refresh on Volume 1 and 2 button on that same page.

Having said that, the 'iTune server" has the option (check-box) for auto-refresh content.

Please provide same functionality so that user does not need administrator to go and manually refresh the content to be visible.

Yes. That is correct and the access restrictions do work.
The goal however should be that when a user with restricted access logs into his share he shouldn't be able to move up in the directory tree and browse (view not enter) all the other users shares and also Volume_1.
If i am not wrong in windows systems this behavior can be controlled with the policy setting "bypass traverse checking".
There are other NAS brands that allow "advanced share privileges" as:
-disable directory browsing
-disable modification of existing files
-disable file downloading
but i am not sure if this is what we are looking for.

Another useful addition would be the possibility to set quotas for a shares.
I know we can set quotas for users and groups but if for instance i have a Public share with all accounts access rights and want to limit it's size i don't know how to do it without a share quota setting.

Thanks

Sorry if i wasn't clear.

There is no error or bug in the share management.
Users can only access the shares for which they have privileges.
However they can see (not access) all other shares and also Volume_1.

For instance in my workgroup when user1, with access privileges only to
Share1 opens the DNS-327 ip he gets:

IPC$
lp
Media
Share1
Share2
Volume_1

User1 can see all shares in DNS but can only access his share - Share1.

Perhaps the solution is to have a hidden share attribute so that it is possible to hide Volume_1.

Thank you

1° Could modify the "admin" username and could create another admin user (emergency admin).
2° Create somes internal group (could not be modified) : "other users" to see what is grant to each user.  Could be helpfull "everyone" - "guest".

Many thanks,

3° a possibility to define right access the recycle bin or give access only to admin.  Otherwise when you delete a file form a restricted folder, this file becomes accessible to everyone.

One reason I purchased the DNS-327L was for the advertised cloud access to music files. I was disappointed to find that the software only reads mp3 files. Most of my music files are in .flac or .ogg formats. I would like to see an update that adds these formats.

RE: My Surveillance

As someone has already mentioned, the storage files (?) for this are not visible, and it would be better if they were. If this is a part of the recording that I would like to keep/transfer someone else, I would like to have the option to save a section.

Also, I notice that when recording using motion detection and multiple cameras, the playback is not time-synchronised (as not every camera is working at the same time, so it just plays back according to the amount of video viewed. However, it would be good to have this option so you can see the 4 camera views at the same point of time simultaneously.

Also, I have 933L cameras (which My Surveillance using the 932L settings) - please can you add support for the newer model cameras, as using the 932L settings I only have support for MJPEG, not H264.

Thanks

Chris

I'm not sure how firmware can fix this other than synchronizing the individual cameras which I believe is already possible via NTP server... unless I'm misunderstanding the request.  :-\  ???

Ah I've just seen how you can do this - there's a sync button with 2 arrows on it on the right-hand side of the playback screen, although for some reason one of my camera's still seems to be out-of-sync with the others (even they all use the NTP time server).

I'm glad you were able to find existing functionality (and almost get things working properly). You may want to start a new thread for this issue, perhaps other DNS-327L owners who used this functionality can flush out the reason for the time issue.

DNS-327L is one of the nice choices at its own price point. Acceptable performance and features.
But it lacks some features that impact its usability, and the main one is SECURITY and ACCESS-MANAGEMENT, let us call it SECURITY-CENTER.

Just got my DNS-327L 7days ago... Here are missing features (but not limited to):

1) Control which user or group can access Web Management Interface.
2) Control which app is available to a user that has access to web interface.

----------------
To me the most huge parts that make me angry are items no 1 and 2.
This NAS is nearly useless to us, as we cant block our employees access to Surveillance Center app. So we cant create file-sharing-ONLY accounts for them.
To be clear, with an account he can:
1. log in to Web Interface
2. access Surveillance Center.
But we do not want this to happen.
----------------------

3) Change SSL settings, Security Certificate.

4) Option to force SSL login

5) Option to Change Service port numbers. eg. webserver port, secure-webserver port,...

6) Deny/Allow access based on IP.

7) Option to include some IPs to allow access to DLNA AV server (to protect privacy, and possible overload)

8 ) hide network share folders, so no one can see them before logging in.

I totally agree with alfut.
USB backup drive is accessible from everyone so every user can see files that haven't permission... Please, give a solution to this, because I must always unmount the usb...

Also I see that is not possible to hide shared folders that a person does not have privilege to. Please give a "hide" option in the Network Shares Settings...

Finally I would like to have the possibility to choose which folders will be backed up (or except some big folders) to a USB stick. Now I can choose or whole the disk, or only one folder.

My firmware is 1.05
Thanks

Starting: Home --> My favorite Applications --> Local Backups
The only thing to see is the Local backup Settings for making an NEW backup, including modify and delete.

But:
Starting: Applications --> Local Backups
Here is ALSO a second part where I can see the progress and status of my backups.
This is a far more important screen.

And if the backup has failed, why did it fail? There is no logging of encountered errors.
And why is the user ROOT and not admin or "Mario".  I can't delete any files because I need UNIX user\root to get privileges. Who is "Root"? Obviously not the "admin".

ROOT is the default designed log in super user account for Linux and UNIX based OSs.
