Add the ability to connect to an NTP server or put a button on the front screen which is visible if the camera date/time is more than a few minutes out from that of the viewing device.  A baby camera needs to be moved around the house as the child is moved, so the camera has to be turned off each time.  It takes 30 seconds to synchronize the camera with an android device.

After posting the request for NTP functionality  I noticed that in the latest firmware update there was

New Feature] Enable NTP sync function with server “ntp1.dlink.com” as default

I am on the latest firmware and this doesn't work at the moment.  Obviously someone at DLink has thought about this but like many other features it hasn't actually been translated into reliable working code.

My router (BT Home Hub 3a) does have a firewall but it does not stop NTP requests outbound.
I have tested ntp1.dlink.com using NTPTool from my home network which does show it as a valid NTP server.

This points to it being an issue on the camera itself.

Did you test an alternate NTP server on the DCS-825L (if that's an option)?

I want to be able to lock the camera from the cloud.
If I give the login to anyone, after that they can always login och watch, should be something to lock the camera time to time.

Also speed up the app, itīs horrible.

Where are you looking to lock the camera from (what UI)? Since the only access is through the mobile app, if the mobile app is cutoff from the DCS-825L then how would you get back on (i.e. unlock)?

Hi javaLawyer,

there are not any options referring to the NTP settings in the android app.  Have just checked the mydlink site / my devices and nothing is available in the settings to change the NTP server.  Maybe the ipad version has something!

Maybe Iīm wrong , but if i register the camera to the Cloud, the you allways can access the camera remotly.
So if I would like to let my grandparents see my child, I give them my login to the cloud, then they can access this all the time thru the Dlink baby app (and maybe I donīt whant this)
Therefor I whould like to have, for example a checkbox "broadcast throu cloud".

I think what you're asking for would have to be managed from within the mydlink service itself, not the firmware of the particular devices registered with mydlink. Each mydlink account has only one login for access and management, so the issue you are raising is shared amongst all D-Link devices registered with mydlink, not just the DCS-825L. There are requests on the mydlink board in this forum to provide a mydlink guest login account that can be enabled/disabled -- although I can't say if such a concept will ever be implemented.  :-\

I tried replying to the app thread but it's locked.

Any plans for a Windows Phone app? The OS is growing and in some countries in Europe it has surpassed 10% market share (reaching 20% in a few). So I guess it's about time to treat WP as a solid user base instead of a small, specific niche.

The intent of the app thread on this board is to provide users with a  description and download link for the app, not post questions/comments. A new dedicated child board is being planned off of this board that will be dedicated to the DCS-825L mobile app. If the other D-Link mobile apps are any indicator, apps for Android/iPhone are usually released first, followed by other platform support -- we'll have to wait and see...

It's hard to say whether what you're experiencing is a network issue. I would re-post this issue as a regular thread and see how other DCS-825L users weigh-in with throughput. As far as the mydlink service is concerned, I can definitively say that resolution and frame rate will be higher if you are viewing a live feed from mydlink on your LAN versus an external network.

Hi,
First at all the should definitly correct the push notification issues as the notif are not working on Apple products when the app (mydlink baby camera monitor) is on background.... that is the main feature of the camera and it doesn't work!!!???  >:( :( :o

Then it should by possible to connect to the camera from the internet (port forwarding for example...) without using mydlink.com  ....Honestly I don't trust this kind of connections... who tells you that they are not able to connect to your camera and see you at home!!!???  >:(

Here's my wishlist, in priority order :

- Fix the bug that leaves the bottom LED on even when LED are turned off, this makes the camera unusable for all wall mounts (and as a wall mount is provided this should be a lot of users)
- Speed up the mobile app (it seems it's the web pages being served by the camera that are slow, or maybe some kind of relaying through the dlink cloud ?)
- Fix the UI for the temperature sensor since there is no (documented) way to turn temperature sensing off in the app, but there seems to be one through mydlink
- It is already in the list but the Web UI link on other dlink cameras would be fantastic to have back (it seems some of the CGIs are already there such as eng/admin/adv_wizard.cgi or eng/admin/tools_firmware.cgi
- Make the app display in portrait mode, not only in horizontal mode (link it is the case in the mydlink lite app)
- In general, offer the same configuration options on mydlink and the app.

D-Link is looking into the first item. More to come. . .

- Speed up the mobile app (it seems it's the web pages being served by the camera that are slow, or maybe some kind of relaying through the dlink cloud ?)

Would you be more specific? Are you referring to a lag between the live video and the time it takes for the video to reach the mobile device? If you are viewing a live feed via the Internet there will be an inherent lag from a few to several seconds.

- In general, offer the same configuration options on mydlink and the app.

This request is too vague. None of the D-Link apps have 100% of the features on mydlink synchronized exactly with the mydlink service.

Thanks !

D-Link is looking into the first item. More to come. . .

This is great news ! I hope they can reproduce it and solve it, because that's my main problem with the device right now.

Would you be more specific? Are you referring to a lag between the live video and the time it takes for the video to reach the mobile device? If you are viewing a live feed via the Internet there will be an inherent lag from a few to several seconds.

Sure I can be more precise. I'm talking about the submission time to save any setting Also there is a problem with some of the screens that are in landscape mode (like the events screen where if you are at the bottom of the settings and click apply, on my iPhone I have to scroll up to see the "Saving" popup, otherwise I have no feedback at the bottom of the screen).

This request is too vague. None of the D-Link apps have 100% of the features on mydlink synchronized exactly with the mydlink service.

Well here I'm mostly surprised of the UI differences. The events UI is completely different on the app and the mydlink settings. As both are web screens it seems it would be easier to maintain the same UI than two different ones. And on my DCS-942l the settings simply direct me to the camera's WebUI which is fine for me, if I had the same thing for my DCS-825l I'd be happy, I don't really need to set advanced settings remotely.

Last but not least thanks a lot for communicating with us, it's really great to know that our feedback is valued !

Regards,
  Serge Huber.

Since there is (for the moment at least) no dedicated forum for the apps, here's one thing I think needs correcting on the iPhone/iPad app :

- Make sure that "remember me" actually remembers the user, even if he quits the app and comes back, or if he's on another network. I'm constantly getting deconnected from mydlink and have to log back in.

This problem also existed on early versions of the mydlink lite and mydlink+ apps but was corrected in later versions. So correcting this would be a big improvement to the app I believe :)

Best regards and thank for this board,
  Serge Huber.

Do you have to re-enter your login credentials after quitting the app, or does the app save your user credentials?  Regarding mydlink Lite and mydlink+, there is no persistent connection maintained after the apps are completely shut down, so I'm unclear as to what you are saying was corrected. Please elaborate...

Hi,

I would like to have the option to set email notification via the app. And i would like to add multiple emails not just 1. The option to add a few pictures in the notification email would be also nice.

There is no way i can disable recordings to the SD-Memory, please add that, also it would be nice if we can set the recording time or schedule time, and periode.

This firmware wishlist is a community maintained list of wants/desires and may not necessarily reflect FW/app changes implemented by D-Link. D-Link does however visit these boards, so this type of centralized list provides D-Link with visibility to the features/functionality everyone is looking for.

Dont forgot to turn off recording from SD Card :)

Here are some of my wishes to a future firmware update:
- Push notifications on my Ipad/Iphone if I'm not into the app or if the device is locked...
- Be able to get the volume louder when we quit the app to hear the sound in the baby's room
- Correct the delay of 2 secs on the sound...
- Correct the language traductions on "myDlink baby monitor" app (when I set the lang of my ipad/iphone to french I get strange messages like variables)
- Correct an issue that seems to not allow adding the camera to mydlink space from ipad/iphone

Already in list

- Be able to get the volume louder when we quit the app to hear the sound in the baby's room

Please elaborate. If you quit the app, where is the sound coming from?  ???

- Correct the delay of 2 secs on the sound...

The sound and video are out of sync?

- Correct the language traductions on "myDlink baby monitor" app (when I set the lang of my ipad/iphone to french I get strange messages like variables)

Added to the wishlist...  :)

- Correct an issue that seems to not allow adding the camera to mydlink space from ipad/iphone

I don't see this as a wishlist item since the mobile app already support adding DCS-825Ls to mydlink. I'm not sure what the issue is with your particular account/camera.

I agree with the others that say the Hardware is excellent, but the device is being let down by the Software.

This is my list of requests from what I've noticed using the DCS-825L with latest FW: 1.02b3427 and with the myDlink Baby App (v1.02.01 on Android) over a few days (some are already added, so just consider them a +1!):

I think that's enough for now, I'll let you know if I can think of any others! ;)

  • Complete config capability from LAN Web UI http://<cam-ip>/eng/mainFrame.cgi (should not have to use myDlink Cloud or App Settings dialog). Currently only shows: Wi-Fi AP Client settings and SD-card files, Firmware upgrade and Info. Should be able to set things like: Resolution, Brightness, Speaker Volume, Boot-up music (on/off/vol), Day/Night/Auto mode, Event detection (level/range/sensitivity), Lullaby timer, LED light (on/off).
  • LAN Web UI page (as above) should be accessible via a redirect from web root http://<cam-ip>/[font], and should also provide shortcuts to the other key LiveView or Admin URLs: http://<cam-ip>/video/mjpg.cgi, rstp://<cam-ip>:554/play1.sdp, http://<cam-ip>/cgi/admin/telnetd.cgi?command=on, etc.
  • LAN Web UI page (as above) should provide maintenance of the Wi-Fi 'Ad-Hoc' AP SSID etc.

This was already on the wishlist under General - Web UI interface similar to other D-Link Cloud cameras. I'll clarify and expand on this line item a bit to be more comprehensive.

  • Push notifications on Android App (when running in foreground or background).
  • Ability to 'Exit' the Android App (currently have to close via Task Manager).
  • Secondary user accounts for 'guest' access to live mjpeg/rtsp streams only (vs full admin with config).
  • Event recording on/off (or schedule-based).
  • NFS or FTP services to camera sd-card filesystem.
  • Custom lullaby music on sd-card.
  • Noise cancelling processing to prevent feedback loops between cam/phone speakers and cam mic.

Added to the wishlist...

  • Using a core of GPL open-source libraries (linux/lighttpd/busybox/ffmpeg) on this very impressive hardware device is fantastic and it could really blow the competition away if the device sources were made more accessible to a dev community who can directly provide firmware fixes to improve, patch and harden flaws in the device now and into the future. NOT doing this introduces a risk (or at least a worry) that your customer's devices may be compromised by researchers or less-friendly hackers (e.g. as occurred with the DCS-2121 http://archive.hack.lu/2013/ipcams-research-falcon-riva.pdf (http://archive.hack.lu/2013/ipcams-research-falcon-riva.pdf))
  • An addendum to the above. Don't try to pretend this device is like mainstream baby-monitors that are super user-friendly and dumb. Set an expectation through documentation or labelling that this is a feature-rich Linux-enabled device, firmware updates will be expected and required for optimal functionality. This simple measure might avoid the device receiving terrible feedback/returns from customers that are expecting a different experience.

I'll add this, but keep in mind that this is a wishlist, not a fantasy list! The underlying firmware is very similar in functionality as the base firmware on the entire Cloud camera line, so I don't think that they will be opening this up to the public.

Thanks JavaLawyer. Very appreciative that you're maintaining this list providing feedback to D-Link! ;D

Opinion/Philosophisation/Debate/Rant:
I agree that I'm asking a bit, but as a software engineer and tech hobbyist it seems funny to include all this 'open' tech and then not go all the way to make it available to enthusiasts to improve its capability.
Also, I am appreciative of 'cloud' for email and data/image hosting on my terms, but I'm not a very 'cloud' kind of person when it comes integrated into proprietary hardware devices. Just as it was for my new HP 'cloud' wi-fi printer, it seems completely unnecessary (and a dangerous, untrusted, vulnerable attack-vector) to have remote internet web-access to my printer or baby cam on my home network, especially where that software is not 'open' and able to be critically analysed. So I'm glad you can opt-out from this service, but in doing so, such devices have an obligation to operate on private LAN just as well. It is elementary to port-forward pages/streams remotely through an internet router if that is desired. Adding 'cloud' services to devices for such marginal benefit is a disturbing new trend sneaking up on the social networking generation, but it seems more like customer phishing to me. So I thought at least I should add a new feature request for access logs...

  • Boot-up music (on/off/vol): probably needs it own line. It was added in the 1.02b3418 Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=57619.0), but currently is not configurable. See comment from Angainor on that page (it wakes her baby).
  • Add a rolling Web Log (username/IP/date/time/url) of access requests to camera config or stream.

Thanks! Added your additional items to the firmware wishlist...  ;)

Security reasons aside, D-Link has an array of other networked devices, such as NAS, NVR, routers, and more products to come. Providing a solution to provide for integrated remote access between all of these related devices is an appealing proposition. There are just some kinks that needs to be worked out, as their Cloud solution did not even exist two years ago.

Please optimize mobile app for tablets!!!

For example, I own a Samsung Nexus 10 (android 4.4.2) and the button layouts are horrible. Buttons are missing, text is missing, buttons on the wrong location, buttons are in front of selectable text.

Most of the functions already exist but d'link have disabled access to them.
I have access to this but im not sure if d'link will have removed this in newer firmware versions (im on v1.00).

Here is the url you will need to gain access...

DCS-825L Suggestions
  • General - OSD Temperature label - Option to enable OSD Temperature label on the image itself instead of just an overlay (much like the time stamp OSD option). In other words, I would like if /image/jpeg.cgi included the Temperature status.
  • General - Standalone Temperature Status - Add a temperature status page to the local system options (eg. /eng/admin/temperature_status.cgi) or add a temperature status line to /eng/admin/st_device.cgi
  • SD Card - Better SD Card Diagnostics - My camera (1.03) reports "SD Status : Reinitialization" (unreadable) on the "SD Management" tab but on the "Music Button" tab it can read my card fine (but am unable to set custom music as the card still reports Reinitialization).

Thanks in advance!

Also I would like to have some diagnostic information on why my cloud (mydlink) connection is currently failing. The cloud led is blinking and I'm unable to find where things go wrong.

Dear JavaLawyer. I have some suggestions on what to include in coming firmware or app versions.

  • Mobile App: ability to receive push notifications without requiring MyDlink account
  • Mobile App (or camera): option to amplify camera volume. When using the mobile app on my Samsung Galaxy S3 with media volume turned to maximum the sounds from the camera are too soft.
  • Mobile App: change sound for push notifications. Right now I'm not sure if I receive an email of if there is movement detected by the camera. Possibly even set different sounds for different event types (noise detection, temperature or movement).
  • Mobile App: recording to android device

Also I would like to have some diagnostic information on why my cloud (mydlink) connection is currently failing. The cloud led is blinking and I'm unable to find where things go wrong.

Actually, I just did some testing with the webinterface on firmware 1.03 and it turns out microphone sensitivity can be set via the http://ip_address/eng/mainFrame_debug.cgi page. MyDlink connections are still buggy and I don't know why. At least I've been able to establish a connection once. And I keep on receiving prompts to upgrade the firmware.  :'(

Woah! http://ipaddr/eng/liveView_debug.cgi and http://ip_address/eng/mainFrame_debug.cgi are amazing... I'm still on fw v1.2 and these hidden Setup and Maintenance pages are very powerful. Why did DLink (in all their wisdom) want to hide this stuff? All configuration items have a decent description and it is easy to find your way around.

For the benefit of others, I'll see if I can tick a few items off the wishlist...

Caveat: I've not actually tested these functions, only that they're accessible through the above URLs. Your own assessment of completeness may vary from mine.

I performed a reset on my DCS-825L because I changed my wifi SSID. Now the camera is no longer present on the mydlink device list. I'm unable to reregister the camera. Other D-Link cloud cameras seem to have a mydlink settings page, but for the DCS-825L this page is not available. So in a future firmware release I would like to have this feature included. The /var/www/ directory already contain cloudLink.cgi and cloudStatus.cgi files but they don't work.

- Java Requirement - Remove Java dependancy from the mydlink site, or provide a lighter UI. Seems that most sites are moving away from requiring plugins such as Java and Flash. For example - The two laptops I use the most- one is a chromebook which does not run Java and my work PC has blocked Java plugins.

- View only account access - I would like my parents to see my child from their iPhones and PC's, but I do not want them to hear audio/conversations or inadvertently change the camera configurations.

- Chromecast support - When I purchased the DLink Baby Monitor I was hoping I could display/cast the mydlink page on my tv. Unfortunately it does not work. If the ios/android app supported chromecast or Apple TV it would be great

Hi, so I'd just like to give a big thumbs up for two of the already requested improvements:

Option to "Exit" the app, and orientation unlock.

There are a lot of really fancy requests on the list now, and I'm sure they would please a few power users in specific situations. But really the basic things should work before getting too carried away with 'tweaks'. The fact that a standard smartphone user has no way to turn the app off is fairly incredible. So my wife starts it up to check on cherub, then a few hours later her phone goes dead because the app runs in the background forever after. There should simply be an option to quit totally, to quit whilst maintaining background audio connection and alerts, or to stay full screen. At the moment if feels a little like a diesel engine that can be started with the starter motor, but has to be stalled by letting the clutch out in reverse gear to get it to stop... and they don't make em like that any more!

Oh, and whilst I'm here, I had the same problem as akma1 trying to work out what 'username' to give. Maybe this should be added to the 'how to update firmware' thread as there is not even a mention of the dialogue box in the instructions.

In the meantime thanks for providing this forum so that we may be heard.
Tom.

Updating with a few tips. Now updated to FW 1.4.

Yes, I'd definitely like to be able to exit the mobile app cleanly to save battery power. Can't believe that issue is still open!

As we know, the advanced config pages can be accessed through:
http://ip-address/eng/liveView_debug.cgi
Login: admin, Password: what you set during initial setup.
This allows you to control and configure most aspects of the camera.
It can't adjust the orientation to portrait, but you can flip and mirror the image.

Going a step further, for those familiar with Unix/Linux/Busybox:
http://ip-address/cgi/admin/telnetd.cgi?command=on - This enables Telnet daemon functions for the camera.
Then using a tool such as PuTTY (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/), you can access a Telnet terminal command-line to do some back-end adjustments. Login: root, Password: what you set during initial setup.

The primary memory (128mb) for the camera appears to be mounted read-only by default, which is a common approach for embedded devices.
But for an example of the additional power of this method:
You can use 'tftp' (trivial ftp) to transfer files from the camera to a TFTP server on the network e.g.: tftp 192.168.1.10:69 -p -l 01.mp3
I can now confirm the format of the standard music (mp3) files in /var/shared/music. Supported format appears to be: 44100Hz 32-bit (float) Mono, MP3 48kbps CBR. Largest track (02.mp3) is 71 seconds long, around 422 kilobytes. While I'm not sure of the upper limits, I suspect unfortunately this rules out loading my 60 minute brown-noise loop!
Similarly, you can access and transfer snapshot video and images from your SD card from /mnt/usb/dcs-825l/yyyymmdd to another computer.

You can examine and effect some low-level settings which may not have a GUI configuration screen.
Standard boot scripts are linked in /etc/rc.d/rcS.d/. Upon examination of scripts here, it appears you can disable the init boot music through configuration e.g.:
     tdb set BootupMusic enable_byte=0
     tdb flush

(Caveat: yet to see if this settings change survives a reboot).

Web pages / cgi can also be found in a typical location in /var/www/

Early days, but I'll post back if I find anything useful.

With this link a can in the new FW (1.05.02) open the webpage but it seems that Dlink destroyed most off the configuration page.
Also i have issues with update NTP and video streaming. So i was going back to 1.04 FW.
Dont update the FW to the 1.05.02. If you made it you can go direct to the firmware-update Page and than make a downgrade.

I would really find the addition oftemperature alert most helpful. The camera is obviously monitoring temperature. The camera is sending email for motion and sound. Why not temperature?????

I think it would be great if firmware could be upgraded by copying a new firmware image on the SD and pressing a combination of buttons. I think it could avoid a lot of problems and RMAs... but if it hasn't been done yet maybe is because it is not possible (:-()

The default ports that this devices adds to the uPNP should be configurable. My modem currently routes ports 80 and 443 to the device, but these ports are in use by my server! I don't know if it was possible to change these ports when the configuration pages were still working. But this is a big problem for me. I cannot disable uPNP, because other services that DO BEHAVE use this method.

Just downgrade the firmware to an earlier version (e.g. 1.04) change the port number and upgrade to the latest again.
