Title: Bittorrent starts fast then slows
Post by: telram on October 30, 2010, 06:30:38 AM
Hi,

I installed the D-link bittorrent add-on. When I add torrents for download, the initial download speed is decent (200+ kb/s). When I come back and check in on the download I see that soon after the download speed drops to the 20kb/s range. Availability is high for the torrents I'm downloading and I'm on a 7MB/s internet connection. I don't think it is a port forwarding issue as the initial download speed suggests otherwise.

I'm running a Linksys gigabit router no port forwarding enabled.

Any thoughts what the problem might be?

Maybe your ISP is detecting and throttling P2P traffic?

Definitely sounds like ISP throttling.

Can be prevented by encrypting the traffic if that's an option

Good suggestion, but not the case. On my laptop no speed issues what so ever, and I know for a fact my isp doesn't throttle. Any other ideas?

Perhaps the version running in the NAS is different to the one you're running on your laptop. I don't know how BT encryption works, but perhaps the version on the NAS doesn't have the facility. Or it's simply not as good?
