Setting up as a wireless repeater
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:29:20 PM »

After reading the forums I didn't find an answer to my question.

I've got my primary wireless router installed on my base-floor. It also gives good wireless coverage in my main rooms. The primary router is configured in a 192.168.1.X subnet and leases DHCP address in the same pool.

I've bought a DIR-855 to extend my wireless coverage to my garden and attic.
I want to repeat my wireless signal and have all clients on the same network (same subnet).

1. Does the DLINK support any WDS?
2. Does the DLINK support any Repeater function?
3. Does the DLINK support any Repeater Bridge function? (my preference because of the same subnet).

In short how do I need to set up my DLINK to make this work?

Hoping to find a solution. Thanks, El Frigo

No Dlink routers do not support this feature. Your best option would be to get your self a DAP model access point as they can bridge or run as an AP off a main host router for better signal range. DAP-1525 is one model

1. I know the device itself (hardware) should be capable of it. To bad those functions are not implemented in the software. Will they be implemented in the future or is the only option to custom flash it?

I now configured it as a separate access point but with the same SSID/AES encryption as my primary AP. That gives my devices "roaming" access.

2. But it brings me at another problem. I noticed that now the DHCP server on the DLINK is disabled the MAC address filtering does not work anymore. e.g. if I turn ON the Mac Address Filter to only allow specifiek devices I cannot get a DHCP lease from my primary AP. If I disable the Mac Address Filter it works just fine.

*bug* ?

If you have the 855 running in AP mode then it's preferred to turn off ALL extra features of the 855, i.e. filtering, SPI, WISH and everything and run it as lean and mean as you can. The host router that the 855 is connected to will handle and should handle all of the DHCP, filtering and rule services.
Turning a router into an AP.

*bug* ? No.
