Title: Connecting as DCS Camera to a 4G Mobile Hotspot
Post by: reneh46 on July 23, 2017, 02:46:53 AM
I have a DCS-930L camera that I have used successful connected by ethernet cable to a conventional router and by WIFI. I have recently acquired a Huawai E573Bs-320 wireless WIFI Hotspot. I can connect my laptop, phone and tablet to this without problems as they all "see" the WIFI signal. There is, however, no WPS button on the device so I can see no way to pair the camera with the hotspot. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help, Peter.

Log into the camera's Firmware webpages and set up the wireless networking there.

Go here, scroll over to DCS-930L

Choose the manual for either H/W A or B version

Under "Wireless setup".

You could also attempt to set up the wireless ON the camera using the cameras web page at the IP address the router has given it. Once in go into Setup/Wireless Setup and you'll see where you can input a new SSID name and PW for the camera to connect too.

Thank you for your help I have managed to set up the camera on my 4G router. I do, however, have a follow up question.
In order to change the settings on the camera I made use of my conventional router into which the camera was plugged via the ethernet port. I changed the settings and the camera connected to the 4G router, I unplugged the ethernet connection and everything worked.
In the future I intend to dispose of the conventional router and use only a 4G router. If I want to make changes to the camera that would be OK if the 4G router is operating but if it is not how can I connect to the camera? Probably a stupid question to you "experts" but can I simply plug the camera into the ethernet port of my laptop?
Thanks for any further help.
Just for your information and amusement! The reason I am using a 4G router is that my ISP (Orange France) has lent me one as my telephone line is not working. The reason the line is not working is that a passing farmer's load took the line down. Orange France are so difficult to contact by telephone I had to visit their local shop where I was given the 4G router foc for two months; their call out time is as bad as their telephone answering!! The joys of rural France!

I'm not sure what you mean by "not working".  You mean externally?

You should be able to log into the 4G router locally and find the camera's IP address, and you should be able to connect to it locally, 192.168.0.xxx or 10.0.0.xxx, even if the outside world is not.

Probably worth reading up on that in the 4g router manual, hopefully can find one online or in the device itself.

Thanks for the reply;I didn't make my question clear.
At present I have a conventional router with an ethernet connection that I can plug the camera into and then see on the network (locally). The router of course can't connect to the internet because the line is down, (physically). With this local connection I changed the SSID to that of the 4G router (then disconected the ethernet cable) the camera appeared on the 4G router's local network and all was well. The 4G router has no WPS button and no ethernet socket.
Once my line is back I need to return the 4G router to Orange France. It is my intention to purchase a 4G router (in the UK) and replace the conventional service which is very slow, unreliable and for a holiday home expensive. I could end up with a new 4G router and no other means to connect to the camera therefore I couldn't modify the camera SSID settings to match the new router.
So I guess the question is if I have a router with no WPS button and no ethernet connection can I connect to the camera by other means? I was hoping I could possible just plug it into my laptop and make the SSID changes but didn't want to risk trying it without advice.
I could take the camera back to the UK and set it up on my home network but the purpose of the camera is to monitor an empty house, mainly for power interruptions, so I don't really want to do that.
Hope that is clearer. Thanks for your advice.

PS I have looked at the manual and it only covers connection to windows, IOS and Android

Took the risk and plugged camera straight into laptop and it worked. I can set camera this way so no further help needed. Thanks.
