WBR-1310 not compatable for Xbox Live on the 360 due to Strict NAT settings

Cound Not connect to XBOX Live due to a MS error.  I tested my Xbox 360 Xbox live connection.  It said I had a strict NAT setting and needed an open NAT router.  It said I'd not see many people online in multiplayer games etc.  Back then I had 1.03 firmware and couldn't sign up.

Since then I've upgraded the Firmware on the router to 1.04 I was able to sign up.  I signed in but was still doubtful.

I went back, tested my Xbox 360 Xbox live connection, and I recieved MIT error.

It works.  But 1/2 the time and not very well.  I'm just not sure if the ISP is not the problem.

That's just the Xbox detecting your behind a router.

You have to forward ports in the router to use your Xbox.

You need to first ASSIGN A STATIC IP TO YOUR XBOX

Use this:

IP = 192.168.0.50, SUBNET = 255.255.255.0, GATEWAY = 192.168.0.1

Leave DNS at automatic

Then go into the D-Link configuration page

Go to the ADVANCED TAB, then to PORT FORWARDING

- put in the IP address 192.168.0.50, and put in the ports that need to be forwarded. You can get that information online or by calling Xbox.

I know this is an old post however for updated information, please visit the FAQ Library (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48075.0) for setting up QoS and XBL. A few stickys regarding setup and use.

Also be aware that having a modem with a built in router connected to an external router such as the WBR can cause Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) which will cause connection problems with gaming services.

I've had my 360 on a WBR-1310 since the 360 came out.  Never had an issue with NAT settings (was always open), and up until recently it's provided rock solid connection.

Many things can change the status of the NAT, ISP, ISP Modems, Updates to XBL services or routers and changes in router settings and effect how Game, routers and NAT status operates.
