Title: DSL-2730u Wireless N 150 - internet connection problem
Post by: jyotirmoy on December 09, 2014, 07:51:09 AM
Hello,

I have purchased a DSL-2730u Wireless N 150 ADSL2+ 4-Port Router. I am facing frequent internet disconnection problem.
Suddenly internet connection goes off even though laptop is connected to the router. I have noticed that during
this issue Status LED (the arrow sign) starts blinking and internet LED is either off or red. Other 2 LEDs (power and wireless)
are stable (green) during the problem. After some time status LED becomes stable and internet connection becomes normal.
Problem is repeated within 5/10 mins.

I am facing this problem for about 3 weeks.

Kindly help me to resolve the issue.

Regards,
Jyotirmoy

Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Thanks FurryNutz for your response.

>> What Hardware version is your modem? Look at the sticker under modem.
Modem Name :   DSL-2730U

>> Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the modems web page under status.
Firmware Version :   IN_1.02

>>What region are you located?
I am from Bangalore, India

I had complained to my ISP before without luck. However, I will ask them to check your points again.
I will check other options you have mentioned and get back to you.

I have one more question: From the symptom I have mentioned above, does it look like a modem restarting issue?

Check your wireless surroundings, if you see many other WiFi signals near by, could be a Wifi congestion problem on 2.4ghz.
