No, never attempted any of that.  If I have troubles with DNS relay turned off, I can go back and try one of these.

I only bought the device relatively recently, so a factory reset seemed like a longshot.  The downgrade in theory might be more helpful, but it is a crap shoot to figure out what other FW version might work better.  Given how rarely the problem comes up, it could take a year or so to cycle through various versions to find something that is stable.
