Title: DNS 202L Problems: I have 2 issues with my DNR 202L setup: ISSUE 1: Drop off of

DNS 202L Problems:
I have 2 issues with my DNR 202L setup:
ISSUE 1: Drop off of cams from DNR 201L.  I have reserved IP addresses for all cams.  5xxx rather 9xx model cams seems to drop off.  This is a DNS  202L problem. Individually the cams themselves never lose connection to the router. But somehow the 5xxx ones will lose connection to to the DNR 202L.
ISSUE 2:
Cannot send email. The “test” function responds with various errors indicating the DNR 202L doesn’t play well with gmail. My gmail PW is an app specific ID so not an issue of requiring additional authentication.
I have tried port  25, 465,  and 587 with the secure box checked and unchecked. The same settings which work for individual cams does not work for the DNR.

Which 5xxx specifically and which f/w?

When you say drop off - the DNR 202L no longer records anything at all for the camera?  Does it still show in the camera list?

But you can go to the camera's IP address and view the camera from there?

I haven't tried email - but it can be a pain to get working.

I determined ISSUE 1 may be just a networking issue and/or a DNS202L issue. All cams have the latest firmware. I realized some of my cams actually are connected to a range extender. The 9xx models are not. The 5xxx are. One 5xxx I reserved an IP address for. The other I did not. Both appear on the extenders connected device list. The one with reservation has dropped off once. The one with no reservation has dropped of 2x. These dropoffs occur within 24 hours of adding them. The incidents do not appear on the DNS 202L logs (which is the principal reason I wanted an email of the logs). The issue is not specific to any model but rather the interplay of having an extender with the DNS 202L.

The cams when dropped off show on the DNR 202L list but with a red x. On rescan a dropped off cam will disapper. The cams are rock steady and do not lose connection to mydlink. Never have I seen them disconnect prior to and after install of the DNR 202L.

On ISSUE 2: I am really baffled as the same configuation for event ie motion emails for the individual cams do not work for the DNS202L. Principally this means use of port 587 and StartTTLS and stmp.gmail.com.  For some reason Google is rejecting connection. Frustratingly tested for several hours including with different levels of security for Google. This is a DLINK issue IMO. The software is half baked. One obvious flaw is unlike for the cam there is no option for TTLS and STARTTTLS. Only for the latter. Its lame.

Update: Hotmail doesn't work either. IMO this means its not Gmail specific but DLINK specific.

1. I would test with out this range extender. We don't know how it's managing the traffic some some range extenders can mask the IP address given to the connected devices and thus cause some "interplay" connection problems.

I fixed issue 1. Had nothing to do with the extender. But it would take DLINK a year to figure it out and actually put it in their manual and they should. Am not disclosing the fix. Hint they wrote their manual not for modern day routers.

Why would you not disclose the fix? Your not helping anyone and any future users by not let them know how you fixed it. My 202L is connected to a modern day router and work well for me. We can only presume it maybe a localized configuration that's specific.  ::)

Both issues resolved after hours of troubleshooting.

Sounds like a mis configuration issue.

I documented the reason on #2 on a different thread.
Still withholding #1 to see how long DLINK (not you) takes to solve it. I bet it takes a year.

Probably not a D-Link issue...nobody else has reported this issue.
What constitutes a "modern" day dual band router?  ??? Dual band has been around for almost 10 years now.  ::)

Which 5xxx cam to be exact?  I'm not going to bother trying all 3 of mine (5222l,5222lb,5010l).

RYATT no need to. Appreciate your efforts to help.  Actually I find the disconnects can result from setup. If you have a "modern" dual band router with 2.4 and 5, the wizard will ask you to connect to the DNR when it should really ask you which band. You can guess and if you pick the wrong one you will get disconnects. To work around this go to your router and turn off the band the cams are not set up on. This way the wizard will only give you one choice -- the proper one. This eliminates the drop offs. Of course reserving an IP address for each cam helps as well.
