Title: DIR-865L Stats Don't work?
Post by: TimeShifter on February 19, 2013, 09:08:32 PM
1) Correct me if I'm wrong, but on v1.02 to v1.04, all stats on Dropped Packets, Collisions and Errors report "0".  I have never seen a perfect 'IP' network in my entire career! I suspect that it just doesn't report properly.

How are you determining this?

I think one possible test you could attempt to try, we need to purposely inject some form of bad packets or cause some form of bad packet corruption or interference to see if the stats are reporting anything. It's a crude method however I might show something.

I would recommend try the following since you have a DGL-4500 handy:
Turning a router into an AP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0) with the 4500. Once you have it all set up you should be able to access it on the same network from anywhere.

Test the 2.4Ghz radio first. Set up the SSID and PW to the same settings as you have it on the 865L. Now with the 865L Channel settings Auto or manually set to 11 or a open unused channel, Set the 4500 for the same channel. I would set the power out put of the 4500 to low first then graduate to Medium then High.

Attempt to connect to this SSID with a device or multiples. Check the Stats on the 865L with a wired LAN PC and see if Stats show anything. I'm hoping by introducing some form of interference on the same frequency, SSID and channel, we can maybe cause something and see if Stats are reporting anything.

After several weeks of troubleshooting my 865, I have finally (maybe) have gotten things stabilized. As I have 2 ISP IPs, I configured both the DGL4500 & DIR865L to run on the same wireless net and 3 feet / 1m apart.  I could not see any errors (note: I'm on my 2nd 865 router as the 1st one I had returned thinking that all my issues with it were router-specific.  But, most issues that I've seen, are the same between the 2 865 routers).  Both 865 routers showed 0 errors.  In the case of the 1st 865 router, I had seen the router reset every 5-15 min with no errors reported, but the time had reset and internet activity dumped/froze for several seconds.  After a few days of troubleshooting the 1st 865, it was sent back to
the shop with a new one in return.

Other issues, I will bring up in additional posts.

Maybe this is a super router in that it has no errors; or there is something wrong in the reporting stats.  Question is: does anyone ever see "errors" in the reporting stats for the 865L???

I just had a look, and yes, I do have a few errors. This is the stats right now, after an uptime of almost 15 days (two hours short):

New FW is available...
Can someone test this again?
