Would it be possible for someone to shine a little clarity on what is going on with the firmware for the 826L?

The 826L I just bought came with v1.01 and asking the 826L itself to check for firmware updates results in it telling me that I have the latest version.

But then going to the AU dlink support site (as I am in Australia) shows me that v1.02 is the latest... Hmmm, Okay...

And then coming here to these forums shows me that there have been 3 further releases since then, the v1.03 which seems to be universally accepted as a "Do Not Use" version and then there are two versions of the 1.04 firmware that I can see.  A NA (North America??) version, and a WW (World Wide??) version that appears to be only for Germany (the link to which shows a v1.05b05 firmware that also exists).

And then there appears to be a link to the 836L device in the 826L forums. Colour me confused.

 ???

I'm also fairly sure that last night the link to the 1.04NA post had the words "DO NOT USE" as part of the post title, did I imagine that or has that been removed recently?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Well the au.mydlink.com says v1.02 is most recent for the AU region.
Germany has a v1.05 for the EU region.
We here in the NA, North America, region have v1.04.
WW is World Wide and you can use this version...

Thanks for the reply. It certainly clears things up a little.

I'll try and google up some release notes for the 1.04WW version and check it out.

Cheers.

I believe you can use the v1.05 on the German site for your region.

IF you do choose to update, please follow this:

Let us know how it goes...

Thanks for the help FurryNutz, I really appreciate it and I'll give the 1.05 a try when a get a spare moment at home tonight (I like to live dangerously  ;) ).

But without trying to sound rude or ungrateful (for I am not trying to be either), I hope you can see how this could be misinterpreted as adding to the confusing.

So far we have:
1.02: which is the official firmware for Australia (from the Au support site)
1.04NA: which is the official firmware for North America.
1.04WW: which is the official Worldwide (world wide but maybe excluding America and not official for Australia either apparently, see above).
1.05: which is official for Germany, but is also possibly unofficially OK for Australia too..

 ???

Nope, not a thing.

1.02 is working and my 7 month old is taking up most of my time.  ;D

1.05 IS on my list of  things to do, once I sort out the WDTV (that keeps forgeting it on a network  >:( ), and my NAS.

"I believe you can use the v1.05 on the German site for your region. "

Yes, v1.05.

and by '1.05', I mean, "Updating the firmware to v1.05"

Unfortunately it's not posted to the U.S. Site yet. I would not load it.
