Title: DAP-1522 A1 bridge mode disconnect randomly
Post by: piyopiyo81 on November 28, 2012, 11:54:01 AM
If you are using DAP-1522 A1 and set to 5GHz 802.11 n bridge mode but disconnect randomly. Don't bother to do any troubleshooting because DAP-1522 A1 only support 802.11 draft n and incompatible with 802.11 n. If unit still under warranty then call D-Link and request unit replacement and ask for hardware reversion B1.

Great information, didn't know there was a compatibility issue. Thank you for sharing.

I have a DAP1522 RevA(out of warranty) and configured as bridge. It connects to a DIR 825 router (RevB). My question is if draft-N is used on DAP1522 how do I know if my router is also using draft-N? I'm always under the impression that a draft-N can always be upgraded to the final N standard, isn't this true? Since I'm unable to connect to the 2.4Ghz band I used the 5GHZ band and as you said I'm getting a random disconnect using the 5GHZ band. I tried using WPS setup but the DAP1522 always connects to the 5GHZ band for whatever reason which at this point I'm not able to understand why. The site survey doesn't show the 2.4Ghz SSID and haven't figured out why it won't see it either. I tried to manually set it up to use the 2.4Ghz band but after sometime it drops and eventually won't work. The firmware version of my DAP 1522 is 1.41 and my DIR 825 is at 2.07NA.

They may have not included the final N into Rev A models of the DAP since they came out w follow on Rev Bs.
Instead of using WPS, try manually using the DAPs wizard to connect it to the 825.
Try using single mode N on the 825.
Try disabling the security on the 825 as a test.
Try using WPA and TPIK only the try WPA2 and TPIK only on the 825.

I purchased two DAP-1522 A1 three years ago so they are out of warranty. Also they've taken off all the firmware download for A1 on the website, so does that mean I'm stuck with these A1 and no way download the v1.41 firmware?

Is there a problem with them?

My 1522 and DAP-622, which I bought new and paid a relative fortunr for, have been problematic for years. The 622 worked fine with my ipad, android phone and laptop, so I always thought the problem was with the bridge and not the router. I have probably spent 20 hours trying to get the 1522 to work correctly. Yesterday I picked up a different brand router because I couldn't find a different branded bridge locally. Oddly enough, the 1522 is working flawlessly now. No more random disconnects requiring a reboot every few hours, no more "establishing secure connection.....no more "downloading proxy script" no more "resolving host," no more IP conflicts, no more slow as sludge connections. For some odd reason the DIR-622 works perfectly with every wireless device I've used it with EXCEPT the DAP-1522. How crazy is that? The two are like a married couple that get along with everybody except each other.

How far away is the 655 and the 1522 from each other?

  • What Hardware version is your router and DAP? Look at sticker under router and DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the router/DAP web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any cordless house phones?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
  • Enable WMM Enable (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0) Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I have spent YEARS trying to get that combo to work properly. I'm done. But just FYI, A hardware on both, both have new firmware, no cordless phones, no other routers or bridges, wpa2 only, 20/40.AES encryption. I know what I'm doing, this pair is just buggy as hell. They are only about twenty feet apart. I will NEVER reconnect my DIR-655. It's on CL for $10. I'm very happy with the DAP-1522/N300 combo. Setup took about three minutes (I'm not kidding) and every device, including the DAP-1522 have performed perfectly ever since. I should have done this years ago.

So your just using the 1522 as your main AP? You could have just shut off the radio on the 655 and used the one 1522 as your main AP.

Sounds like you figured it out. This case is closed.

Enjoy.
