WEP KEY Forgotten
« on: May 13, 2011, 06:19:57 PM »

My little sister added a password to my home network when i left for school because my dad was freaking out about our network being insecure. When i got back and asked her what the password was she can't remember. Is there any way i can fix this so we can get internet back in our house?

Thanks.

You need to do a factory reset of the router using the botton in back.

alright, i hit the little button on the back that said "reset", and the only thing that did was reset the router itself. I finally finished my brain fart and i deleted the properties for the network that was saved to my computer. I attempted to reconnect and the connection wizard told me to hit a another button on the right side of the router when i tried to connect and it gave me all the Correct properties. Thanks for the help though, At least i have my Laptop back up and running on the network.

ok, but i still have one more problem :-[
I tried to get my Xbox to connect with the wireless and it keeps asking me for a WEP key. So i still somewhat  have the same problem. does anyone know any way to get by this? Or just to get rid of this WEP key so i can set a new one that the entire fam will remember?

Thanks.

He's right, that little button should reset you to factory defaults, I just did it with mine last night and it worked for me.

As for the XBox, if you didn't change the settings that were already in there it may still ask for the WEP even though you don't have it anymore.  Try clearing your wireless connection on the XBox then search for it again.  See if that removes the need for WEP.

I would recommend using WPA or WPA2 for security.
