It will be amazing to see what CPU it runs on etc, Not that routers need a whole lot of power but the more the smoother I would say, this is also the first router to use streamboost. I hope D link does a great job on this router and the support last. I will make up my mind in the upcoming month.

On its face, this new DGL looks like it will put my trust DIR-857 to shame.  :-\

5500 is going to cost $180 dollars! and its coming coming Q2 of 2013! One huge problem I have thus far is the only thing is streamboost. That's all the router has going for it, while it is still very early I would like to see other features unless streamboost is the Miracle. I am sure more details will spill in these upcoming months. Thanks everyone posting all this information  ;D Here's my contribution

The router looks really nice, love the D link branding on the sides. Still 4500 has been the best looking router IMO. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for sharing LIME. I think theres more to it than just the Streamboost. Has new UI and AC WiFi too, Cloud an I presume some DLNA abilites, not sure of that though. We'll have to just wait and see.  ;D

So Hey Guys,

I am house bound with a sprained foot so thought I would say Hello. How has things been?

I noticed the 5500 in some CES coverage and it seems on par with what other manufactures are selling. Seems the trend is manufactures are competing with feature sets that very few people are actually using. Who here is actually using their USB port on their router? Who here has any AC compatible devices or adapter? Who here has a full gigabit LAN?

I would really like to see a manufacture step up and bring something really new to the market. Like a much better GUI for firewall and forwarding. Maybe have it use DLAN to detect a Xbox 360 and auto configure the router for it. If it detects a inbound FTP request, have it create a popup asking if you want to allow it. Have it show you throughput on a diagram of your network and allow you to prioritize it with a click of a button. See you can add all the fancy features you want, but if no one is bothering to configure them, all it is a advertisment on a box.

Well, Well, look who the cat dragged in. Wow, though you gave us up for your Asus router sir?  :P

There is a DGL-5500 sticky for your review sir.
Member you and I had talked some about the next follow on? LOL. Wow, I guess they reconsidered the DGL line again huh? Yes, the UI is different BTW.

Well maybe you can check one out and give feedback on it. Help make it better.

Good to see ya. Hope your foot gets better.

Well to be honest I haven't been posting on any forums last couple of months. Some nervous times at work so trying to keep my head low you know?

Anyway, Im glad they brought back the DGL line up back, but Im worried there just using it selling point only. I'm sure there going to offer the Streamboost feature to other routers, so I just don't see it worth the price point. I wish Dlink would actively go out into the gaming community and see what people could use like Razor or Corsair does. Then they could turn the DGL into a RoG like badge. Nothing against Dlink, because its not like ANY router manufacture is doing that, but It would really put them above the rest if they did.

Also, know of any threads having issues with DNS, routing, or issues more related to the business side? Im so out of date on which threads are hot here.

Ya I know...well, we'll have to see if we can maybe help them do something new or make changes. Since working in the forums it's been kind of slow on various items we've seen however some things do happen. Some don't. We can only post and present them to DLink and go from there. It's up to them to figure it out. JavaLaywer is the most active in getting peoples feedback and posting wish lists and bug lists. I have been doing some however mostly just helping get routers configured well for users and helping fix current problems.

I really hope and I'm going to push that DLink keep more of an eye on this router so we can help and maybe help DLink make some changes for it. I'm really hoping that with all that we've done, learned and experienced since the 4500 and other routers that maybe we can help it be that much better. We'll have to see.

The wireless AC stuff is still new and ya, going to see some issues I presume. I still need to get into a AC adapter to test it out fully as I only have a N 450Mb adapter now. Works well with the 857 and 865L. I presume that the wireless wont change any differently on the 5500 in that respect. Also not sure when the AC  spec will be finally certified I guess.  ???

Ya there has been some moderate DNS issues that I've mutteled my way thru and have though about asking you but I figured you were a goner so I managed. I'd like to call on you if possible on somethings if your going to be around. Sorry that things at work have been rough, been that way for everyone I think. Rough past few years. Hoping this year will be better. I guess we need to count the blessing for being employed still huh?

And Yes, I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON ONE!!!!  ;D

Let me know how it is? Im looking to buy a new router for my parents pretty soon. I gave them my old DGL-4500 and they killed it in 1 day (brown out). So I am kind of nervous buying them something new, but right now there using a old G netgear router that has seen better days. I was also looking at the BUFFALO WZR-600DHP because it would save on me having to flash it to dd-wrt.

Speaking of which, any word if the DGL-5500 will be dd-wrt compatible since it will be using a Qualcomm chip? (Broadcom bought out by Qualcomm).

The brown out killed the power adapter or the router entirely?

I would recommend a DIR-645 or 657 if the parents aren't using 5Ghz.

No word on WRT support yet. Anything is possible at this point. I don't think DLink allowed any support on the DGL line though. Maybe the 5500 will be the first.
