Interesting. I just perused it and didn't read it completely but I wonder if this is how they'll also compete with VoIP devices like Ooma (of which I'm a fan since I only pay $3/month for and that's mostly taxes).

Now, my PC is doing weird things.
Upon bootup and once my desktop comes up and everything is stable, my "Computer" folder pops up as if I'd double clicked on the Computer icon. WTH?
I checked the startup folder and it says it's "empty".
Any suggestions?

I meant to say my notebook. I ran CCleaner, looked for some weird startup thing in run>msconfig and found nothing.
I use the touchpad/mousepad.

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to many people and D-Link forum users effected by the hurricane Sandy that hit the NE U.S. :'(
We hope that recovery and clean up will be as fast and humanly possible and we'll see our D-Link users back online for those who were effected by the storm.
Please maintain any form of contact where needed, letting users know if help is needed, that we are here for them and any one needing help.
We hope for a speedy recovery in this time of need.
Furry.

The Future of Wireless Networks (http://forwardthinking.pcmag.com/none/303730-the-future-of-wireless-networks)
I wonder if faster ISP speeds to customers uses more, less or the same amount of energy to deliver. If it uses less or the same amount, then wouldn't the ISP's feel obligated to give us all maximum speed to save energy and become more "green"?
I know they have the tiered speeds to charge more for higher speeds and thus increase company profit but from an energy conservation standpoint it would be an irresponsible waste of resources, IMO.

Im sure it's lonely with out you sir. :'(
I was located in "Evacuation Zone-A" in NYC, so as soon as electricity is back we can make the trek back home. Come to think of it, if cable dropped I may have been assigned a new IP address, so I may not be able to find the router even after power is restored.

Belkin to Acquire Linksys From Cisco (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Belkin-to-Acquire-Linksys-From-Cisco-122885)
-
Wrong link. Thats a link for a DIR-865L review
PS. In the review you state some people should turn off SPI. I disagree. SPI doesn't protect your WLAN from intrusion, it protects your LAN from the WAN. No mater where you live, there is alot of random traffic from worms and bot nets that SPI protects you from. It can also help protect infections on your network from spreading.
-
Corrected link.
That just as observation and I also noted that it could be. It's up to Users to decide how to use SPI. I am curious why they are shipping SPI off on that router though.

Ooooo, man, they don't like D-Link, either in those forum comments. :(

Who does? Belkin is one of the cheapest brands and horrible software. To this day I refuse to help anyone with a belkin wireless adapter. I just tell them to buy something else...their that bad.
-
Seems to be that there trying to improve there reputation and name by buying Linksys. Oh well, more power to them. I'd buy NG before buying any Belkin. ::)
DLink> "I'm lovin it!" ;D
-

Some of the forum comments were anti-DLink as well, but mostly dissing on Belkin. I think just a lot of fanboys for other makes.
-
Yea, Im not a fan of favoritism. There is no such thing as a good brand.. specially with routers. Most of them have very similar parts inside and alot of the times, one brand will buy another brand so often, who can even tell which router was made by who?

Very true. I've had good routers by several different manufacturers. I think DLink and NG have the best forums for support, too.

New - DAP-1665 Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Access Point (http://www.dlink.com/us/en/business-solutions/wireless/access-points/access-points/dap-1665-wireless-ac1200-dual-band-access-point)
Overview
The DAP-1665 Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Access Point is a fast and versatile solution for bringing wireless AC to an existing wired network, or extending the capabilities of an existing wireless network. The latest 802.11ac technology delivers combined speeds of up to 1200 Mbps1, creating a high-speed wireless link between networks for optimized performance and reliable coverage delivering high-quality HD video streaming, gaming and file transfers.
High-Speed Wireless and Wired LAN
The DAP-1665 features the latest 802.11ac wireless technology, capable of delivering combined speeds of up to 1200 Mbps over two bands. Use the 2.4 GHz band’s 300 Mbps for web surfing, email and chat, while simultaneously using the lower-interference 5 GHz band's 867 Mbps for network bridging, downloading, video streaming and file transfers. For wired connections, the Gigabit LAN port enables wired data speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, meaning that Gigabit-compatible wired devices can also benefit from the high speeds of wireless AC.
Versatile Operation Modes
The DAP-1665 can be configured to operate in several modes. Access Point mode allows the device to act as a central hub for wireless users, giving them access to an existing wired network. Bridge-mode creates a high-speed wireless link between two wired networks (LANs), alleviating the need to install additional network cabling. Repeater mode extends wireless coverage of an existing wireless network to cover “dead” spots and reach farther into a business environment. Bridge mode with AP adds the functionality of a wireless access point to a bridged network, so wireless clients can access resources on both networks. Wireless Client mode is available to enable the DAP-1665 to connect to another access point and provide network and Internet access to a remote wired device such as a gaming console or media center.
