DIR-868L in AC mode
« on: September 24, 2014, 01:13:37 PM »

Hello,

i have the DIR-868L for a some time.  Till now I only used 2.4Ghz.  But now I have bought an USB ac wifi adapter for 2 laptops and also my new tablet uses ac.

Everything is fine when I have 1 laptop and the tablet connected, but when the 2nd laptop connects all devices have very slow or no connection.  When I shut down 1 laptop the 2 other devices have again maximum speed.  I know the bandwith is shared on all devices, but it's seems not normal with only 3 devices.

I have much more devices connected to 2.4Ghz and have no problem at all.

DIR-868L has FW 1.08

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N or AC on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40/80Mhz
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

What model and Mfr is the USB adapter?
What are the connection rates your seeing on the router under Status/Wireless?

  • What region are you located?
Belgium, Europe.

  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

No, router has FW 1.08

  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?
Don't know if same issue was before 1.08 because have AC adapter only from this week.

  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Is changed.

  • What wireless modes are you using?

2.4 Ghz N and 5Ghz AC

  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40/80Mhz
Yes

  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try
WPA2 AES only

  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
2x laptop and tablet
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
Have latest drivers

  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
No

  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
Yes, but not on AC mode

What model and Mfr is the USB adapter?
2x SITECOM WLA-3001

What are the connection rates your seeing on the router under Status/Wireless?
433 mbps but drops when 2nd laptop connects to AC wifi

Like mentioned on my first post.  I have 4/5 devices connected in 2.4Ghz, but now I have the 2 laptops and tablet that connects to 5Ghz.  When 1 laptop and 1 tablet no problem at all, when 2nd laptop connects the speed on both laptops is dropped till almost 0.[/list]

Be sure you are using the FW file from your region:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59322.0

  • What wireless modes are you using?

2.4 Ghz N and 5Ghz AC
Please change to Mixed mode on 5Ghz and test. Let us know if it still happens.

  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
Yes, but not on AC mode
What channels are being used by other WiFi neighbors? How many neighbors do you see on 5Ghz?

What model and Mfr is the USB adapter?
2x SITECOM WLA-3001

What are the connection rates your seeing on the router under Status/Wireless?
433 mbps but drops when 2nd laptop connects to AC wifi
What are the maximum connection rates supported by these adapters? Please refer to the Mfr site information and help for this info.

I will test it first with another router, because I think the problem is situated at the wifi adapter and not the router.

If you can find other adapters or other devices that support AC mode as a test, will help narrow down the problem. Keep us posted.

Thanks.  I have installed the new FW, did not yet have time to test if this solve my problem.
But thanks for the update.

If I still have a problem I will reply in this topic.

Sorry, I should have looked to see your location.
Please update using this link:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61003.0

The one I posted is for the NA region only. You need the EU region update which will be collected by the router using the auto update check feature.
