More Bittorrent Functionality
« Reply #62 on: September 13, 2008, 09:37:17 AM »

1)  +1 for DHT support
2)  Ability to Seed directly from the DNS-323
3)  Ability to create torrents from the DNS-323 using its own paths i.e. /Volume_1/BT/share, not a windows mapped directory
4)  BT Settings Retain after a reboot -- right now if I reboot after specifying upload limits, the setting resorts back to -1 (unlimited)
5)  +1 Built-In SSH support that respects users & security groups created from within the 323's web admin page; not like the way ffp implements OpenSSH where the user has to synchronize passwd & group manually.
6)  +1 A built-in utility that automatically checks disk consistency at startup, shutdown, and reboot.  (presently using cleanboot.sh for this process).
7)  SAMBA:  Add a recycle bin automatically - presently we have to modify the samba.conf to get a Recycle Bin, however it's clunky and has some issues (see forums for the problems)
8)  Undelete facility that is accessible from the Web Interface

A simple yet very sweet little feature would be the ability to use hard links with the incremental backups.  In this way, one can create individual snapshots without the cost of duplicating data.  If it was taken one step further; an interface to work with these snapshots so it's easy to delete or restore.

You can't, it's not released yet.  If there is a beta I imagine you would have to be part of a special beta group to get it.

I wish they would add the ability to put users in more than one groups

Not create separate shares for each user given permission to view that share

Auto On- When using as a backup I don't want to go across town to other office just to turn the unit back on.

The ability to create folders from within the web interface

I'd love to add Seagate 1.5 TB - ST31500341AS Support!

Plus many of the other suggestions made earlier, especially:

security problems fixed
ability to change admin userid name
special characters in passwords
Disk check utilities
Telnet access (without a hack)

Cheers,
Bill

I'm new to this forum and I just got a DNS-323 up and running with 2 x 1TB disks.

This is what I'd like to see in the next firmware version, in hope that DLink product managers actually monitor this forum. These are not nice-to-have items for me. These are features that I strongly miss in the product.

In priority order:
1. Data Encryption (in case someone steals the hard disks)
2. Auto power on (in case my UPS runs dry after a power failure)
3. SMTP SSL (required by GMail, had to use Yahoo)
4. Backup to external USB drive (RAID 1 is for redundancy, not for data backup)
5. Secure FTP
6. Disk Check and Repair Utilities
7. Temperature logging
8. Defragmentation tool

Thanks.

   Have only had the units (2) for a short period, but couple things come to mind already;
Remove the Printer support and allow for USB drive instead, this way would be easy to backup the drives. Or support both.

Option to Auto-power on after power failure.

 Better security on FTP feature.

 SMART support on hard drives
