Author Topic: Bridged DIR-615 router, but Internet only works via cable not WIFI  (Read 23865 times)

I have a D-Link DIR-615 hardware C1 with firmware 3.13 that I bridged off of a Belkin router that is attached to a cable modem.  I am able to connect my laptop to the DIR-615 LAN port and get Internet access.  However, when I try to connect to the DIR-615 router using WIFI, I don't have any Internet access.  I checked the settings in the manual for bridging and think I have it correct since it works via LAN cable, and have setup numerous wireless connections before so I don't think I have anything wrong there.  I was just wondering if there is something about the DIR-615 wireless settings that is different because it is bridged that I wouldn't see when connecting via LAN cable.  Any thoughts on what to try?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I read the info in the link and it appears I am using the wrong terminology.  I am apparently trying to setup a wireless access point instead of bridging the router.  I found the info on setting the router up as an access point, and I pretty much had it setup that way, but I am still having the same issue.  The two routers are not technically connected via a LAN cable because I have a couple of TP-LINK CPE devices in between the two routers to setup a long range access point.  All four devices are setup within IP address ranges of 192.168.2.2 and 192.168.2.254.  I noticed the link about setting up an access point suggested using 192.168.0.50-.59.  I didn't think that would matter, but could that be the issue...do I need to setup all my other devices within that IP range?  It still seems odd to me that the wired connection works fine...and the wireless connection works, just no internet.  The router was working fine both wired and wireless when I wasn't using it as an AP.  Any other suggestions that I could try?

I would start by narrowing down the problem and remove the CPE devices in between and run a test with the 615 wired to the back of the main host router. Even turn OFF the main host routers WiFi temporarily and set up the 615 per sticky and make sure you are getting the 615s wireless. You can even set this up with just the 615 and a wired PC to start. Then connect it to the main host router and then test the WiFi. It should work well. Set up the WiFi settings for your needs. If you don't have any devices that are not using A or B modes or even G modes, Set for Mixed G and N or single mode N. Test with no security at first then turn on WPA or WPA2. Preferred mode is WPA2 and AES only. Some devices may not support AES so you might have to use Mixed TPIK and AES.

Ok, you were right about removing the CPE devices I think.  I have the D-Link router connected to my original Belkin router and can access both routers wirelessly and access the Internet from both routers.  I am going to try adding the CPE devices back in and see if I can figure out what I was doing wrong the first time.

Ok, not sure what I did differently this time, but it appears to be working fine with the CPE devices.  I did a system reset on all hardware and started from scratch on setting up each device.  Started with setting up the D-Link router as an AP as suggested in the earlier post and used the posted setup procedure.  That worked well, so I added in the two CPE devices and that seemed to work fine.  So I moved the D-link router from my main router to the second CPE device and it seemed to work that way too.  I did make sure I kept all of the devices on clear channels just in case.  I am going to leave the network up locally for a while before I try pushing the range limits of the CPE devices.  Hopefully all will continue to work well.  Thanks for the help on this!

New problem that I could use some advice on.  I was trying different things to test the network and found a problem.  I can connect to my main router without problems...and I can connect to my AP router or my CPE AP fine when using my laptop.  However, when I try to connect to my D-Link router (AP) using my cell phone, it keeps trying to obtain an IP address and is never successful.  Any thoughts why that is?  I did disable all of the DHCP server settings on everything except my main router.

Ensure you are connecting to correct IP address of the D-Link AP? what IP address did you assign it?

I had tried a couple of different addresses, but I was primarily testing it at 192.168.2.50 because my main router was setup on 192.168.2.1.

I was able to resolve this simply by resetting both my cable modem and the router. God bless!
