Your router doesn't have to be connected to the internet to access it's web page. Just open a browser and goto the 192.168.0.1 address. It should show you the DLink router log in page.

Thanks so much.  I finally remembered how to get to my router settings.  DUH!!!

However, all of sudden, everything is fixed.  Isn't that fabulous the way someone's magic fingers just fixed everything.  I think it was Time Warner's fault, and they have now fixed it.  We will never know!

This is a p.s. to my post above.

I like to think of the fix on the router (per Time Warner) as trickle-down maintenance.  Has anyone thought about this...my router wasn't connected to the internet.  My husband decided to connect everything back the way it was to see how things were going.  Well, it was all fixed.  Now how in the world could the router be fixed by support if it wasn't even connected. There's a good one!

There has been some word that DNS services have been having some issues lately. Seems that turning off Advanced DNS services on the router resolves this issue.

TW Roadrunner customer here and I had the same trouble, no internet. After talking to the little foriegn service rep who told me it was the Dlink router, I thought, OK Peggy, I waited for a bit and then everything was fine. There was no problem with the router, just TW Roadrunner and Peggy at cus. serv.

Hi All,

When the Internet is down and you can access http://192.168.0.1/ , your Router, then the problem is with the ISProvider, even though they don't show anything wrong. Have them ping your Cable Modem or test it from their location.

Problem might be a downed Wire outside.

Well this UNIQUE problem makes me wonder.

My D-Link 825 router, ( I know it's not a 655), did the same thing on the same day.  No Internet through the router.

I have Newwave Communications Internet, a small 3 state ISP.  Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri.   So I don't know if Time Warner leases them the backbone or what.

Anyways, I called technical support, and a funny thing happened.   They IMMEDIATELY insisted I try the modem DIRECTLY to the PC.  Well I said that's crazy, I NEVER have that problem.  I been in PC's since 1977.  Many times I have called before, they never insisted like this.

Well I did it anyway, and the Internet immediately worked.  In my mind I sort of began to panic, cussed my router, etc.     He says check your router.  I said ok, but I know it's fine.  Ended call.

So here I go.  I went to resetting everything, modem, router, PC, and nothing worked when I connected my modem to the router.

Finally I said, alright, repeat the process.  I also changed the network cable from the router to the PC.

OMG it worked!  I said well, bad cable.....never had that happen before.

I think it was just timing.   Later I switched the cable back to the old one, and it worked.

So this is VERY VERY STRANGE.   Are ISP's trying a new trick to see if we are behind a router?  Perhaps to help tech support people know a little extra?  Who knows.  And why DLINK products?

Oh and the "Enable Advanced DNS Service"  option had nothing to do with it, as I NEVER have it checked at anytime now or in the past.

Would be interesting if someone finds out what really went on that day.

Hi ronxp2000,

In all the words you wrote, you told me that you never registered the Router with the Cable Modem. Because you can't simply switch the Ethernet Cable coming out of Cable Modem to the Computer, without removing the Power to the Cable Modem, unless you failed to Registered the Router with the Cable Modem. The Computer was still registered with the Cable Modem.

Well I am confused, I don't know what you mean register the modem with the router.

I have used this router with the same modem for 7 or 8 months.  The internet always worked great.

Please explain what registering it means, and I'll do that to prevent any future potential problems.

And the modem had NEVER been hooked to my PC until the test that day.

If you mean always power down the cable modem before connecting to a new PC or new router, yes I know to do that.   As the same modem I used to use with an old Linksys WRT54G.

Hi ronxp2000,

Yes that is exactly what I mean.

But everything is working just fine now, correct?

Oh yes, everything I had back working that day.  I am just interested in the mystery of why all this happened to a lot of D-Link router users.

I believe you might have seen your down time if you had Advanced DNS services enabled. There was a recent outage on the servers that Advanced DNS Services connects too. I recommend not using advanced DNS servces and disable it. I recommend that reviewing the Status/Device Info/Wan Section for Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses and putting these into the Setup/Internet/Manual section and making sure DNS Relay is enabled will help keep the Internet going. During times of Advanced DNS Services outages. I for one do not use this service thus I haven't experienced this issue before. DNS IP addresses from your ISP hardly ever change or go down. IF something does do down, it's usually on the ISP side. If you direct connect a PC to the ISP Modem and your getting the same issues, then you'll know it's there problem and not yours. If you don't see any issues, then you'll know you'll need to trouble shoot from the ISP modem down to the router and PC.
