Lost Power Supply/D-link Can't Help
« on: April 29, 2017, 10:00:06 AM »

I want to buy either an OEM or a generic power supply for my Dir-879 Router ASAP. I lost mine. I spent nearly a half hour on the phone with D-Link. They had absolutely no clue how to help. Can anybody here give me a part number? I'd prefer to buy a genuine D-link adapter, but it really doesn't matter at this point. Maybe you could just provide the model # of your power supply. There are lots for sale on ebay. I went to parts.us.dlink.com,  but I can't find anything for the dir-879.

As stated in my post, I looked on that site. I'm in the US.

I'd prefer to buy a genuine D-link adapter, but it really doesn't matter at this point.
D-link isn't likely to make its own power blocks. It will come out of one of those nameless factories in China. And D-link's supplier is likely to change over time. Mine doesn't even say D-link just Asian Power Devices.

You'll be safe with anything generic with the right volts, amps and polarity.

Are the power requirements are listed on the device?

Is radio shack still around?  They had various multi part adapters.

I'll with my resources on whats available. You can get OEM ones on ebay as well. I have bought a couple from ebay and work well. Just be sure the specs on the eBay ones are the same as what you have. Most DIR series routers have similar adapters for each model class. I'll post back if I get any information.

There is only one on ebay that specifically says it's for the Dir-879. It's close to $20. I was hoping to find something more in the $10 range. lol

I don't. I think the tip of the plug size is different. Those are for the older DIR series routers. I have a few of them. I think the plug size changed when they came out with the newer DIR series which started around the 880L and going forward.

Not sure if the 1st one would work, can't verify plug size.

2nd one amps are too high.

I recommend taking the plunge and just getting one of the ones I linked that's specific for the DIR-879. Don't take any chances. Good Luck.
