Title: f/w 2.04.03 - very strange stuff going on?
Post by: RYAT3 on November 21, 2017, 09:54:41 PM

I am at 2 client sites that I installed last year.  They are both behaving in the same way.  (I won't be able to verify my setup until next week to see if I have this strangeness).

I'll test with Windows 7 tomorrow.

But - on 2 different DNR202Ls with 2 different Windows 10 laptops - the text of names of things look strange almost every where.
The playback MONTH list is "undefined".

Can someone verify if they see anything like this?

here is the "FwUpdate" screen showing version:

Things wrong: "FwUpdate"? "displayandlang"? "eventsettings"?  the list goes on and on.

here is the playback screen that is on both systems , each month is "undefined".  You can select them and get to a month, it's in some order.

Other things wrong? "camList channel", "setup td starttime", "setup td endtime" ?   huh?

Has some sort of Windows 10 update or IE update broken something?

Both Win10 machines are upto date on regular path, one home edition and one pro.

Does this happen with other browsers?  What is the IE version you are using? I assume the same on both machines.

I will have a tech look at it. Any recent firmware updates you have applied?

I am still waiting for a response regarding your code 16 issue from the other day.

Running the same and latest f/w from july 2016 for dnr-202l that I am aware of.
IE version 11, all latest updates in both Win7(just test) and Win10.

Chrome and Edge both display the same screens (but you can't view the images).

Hopefully FurryNutz can confirm if his is also acting in this manner.  I won't be able to access mine until next week to confirm if that one is also odd.

I am posting a security patch right now - 2.05.01. See if maybe that fixed it. If it is happening on multiple browsers, it must be a firmware issue. Now I know these technically are not supported in Windows 10 so I don't know if that is the issue.

Also on win 7.

Hmmm you will probably have to reflash the firmware. Not sure what would cause the text to do that, especially on 2 devices. Very strange. Techs will test today to see if they get the same results.

Not seeing this on my OSX Mac Book Pro using Safari. Month list appears correctly as well as the Maintenance menu listing.

Clear out browser caches before accessing the UI. Be sure your view mode isn't zoomed. Try IE11 compatibility mode.
Try FF Browser to see if same thing happens.

Thanks GreenBay42 and FurryNutz.

The new F/W flash worked (maybe reflashing 2.04.03 would have worked too), everything looks normal again. Display languages now shows the list instead of "displaylanguage".

The F/W process was a little scary.  Nothing happened other than this screen, but I waited for the device to reconnect and start recording after a few minutes and beeps.

During f/w update: https://www.screencast.com/t/PuPFjyop7n (https://www.screencast.com/t/PuPFjyop7n)

After f/w: https://www.screencast.com/t/piv4CJ5zdZ (https://www.screencast.com/t/piv4CJ5zdZ)

months list is back: https://www.screencast.com/t/14ZOqwzw (https://www.screencast.com/t/14ZOqwzw)
text and language back to proper information: https://www.screencast.com/t/evoyxP9APCzM (https://www.screencast.com/t/evoyxP9APCzM)

I'll flash the other one soon.

I would have cleared all browser caches and tried FF before upgrading however seems to have worked for your case. Maybe a full power OFF and back on cold have been good as well.

I'll keep and eye on mine.

Techs tested and could not replicate it. Glad it got resolved. Very strange though happening on 2 units.

I'm thinking it may have been a browser issue.

Tried Edge/Chrome on Win10 laptop, and IE 11 on 2 different win10 laptops, and IE 11 on win7 desktop.  The one site was only win10 laptop, so I couldn't have infected anything with my laptop.

I can't wait to try my DNR202L next week with this laptop.

Maybe BaMoh will chirp in at some point.   ::)

Interesting.

When you go to the next one, do a full power OFF and back on and clear out all browser caches before access the UI. Try Compatibility mode on IE11 and test FF and let us know what you find. Before upgrading.  ;)

Cleared ie11 browser stuff.
Tried compatibility mode.
Tried edge.
Unplugged from power and plugged back in.

Nothing worked.

Installed 2.04.03 overtop itself. Back to normal!
Installing 2.05.01 now.

Reverted back again!

Was changing some settings (turning audio recording off ), customer was on phone watching,  browser locked up, and the problem returned.

Perplexing!  ???

Reverted to the problem or FW.

Try a factory reset on the DNR?

Reverted to the problem.

Did Not get to try the factory reset. Had to return to base.   I'll monitor this one here and see if it reverts also.

Was at home base - heard the DNR-202L beep, then beep again.
Checked the menus - this one also reverted to the problem menus and months being undefined.

This time a code 64 in the log.

Something to try maybe, have one only connect to 1 camera, power cycle or factory reset the NVR and set up from scratch with one camera and test. See if it happens again or not.

What USB drive do you have connected? Size? Could be another test. Just run the NVR with out a USB drive connected and test...

I sent the code 64 log to the techs and still waiting on a response back about the previous log entries. Engineers/vendor will hopefully respond back soon.

I haven't emailed the techs like GB42 asked me to about the setup.

I did do several things in the meantime and had some other observations.

One time - the thing reset with syswatchdog code 64.  But the menus and everything were back to normal!

It's "crashing" syswatchdog code 64/reboot at least 5 times a week, no more than once per day.

I know that the WD UltraPassport usb 3.0 drive without external adapter is some what frowned upon/questioned - it has been running for 1 year with the 4 cams.  I doubt this type of writing fragments the drive.

Anyways - as a test, I bought a new 4 TB WD drive with external power adapter.  After ultra passport filled up - it started writing to the new drive.  Next day - crash syswatchdog code 64/reboot.

I removed the WD ultra passport and only have the WD drive with the external power adapter - since then 3 crash/reboots.

I haven't seen any other connections in the log other than local, and my external IP address.I think it was a hacking attack - they'd be a little more forceful than once every few days?

I recommend keeping in touch with Tech support about this. Give them all the details.  ;)
