I hope the next firmware update is going to have an unlimited amount of mac addressing just like the DGL-4500.  i hope it is soon.

Don't necessarily want unlimited but a few more than 24 would be really nice. I just had to replace my DGL-4300 with the 655 and there are not enough slots for all of the addresses that I had.

It would also be nice to be able to distinguish which address went with which device. The 4300 could do that...why can't they all? I think D-Link is going backwards in some respects.

Each device has its characteristics and features. Some shared, others not. In a sense your thought (stretching it a bit) would encourage 'Soviet model' production; one color, one type, one size fits all  ;)

You have over 24 MAC addresses you need to filter access?

If I had that many I think I would go for business class router.

From a performance point of view that's absolutely true. 24 devices isn't Home office...

It doesn't take long to build up MAC addresses in today's world.   In my house I've got a PS3, Xbox360, LAN Printer, Wii, 2 Itouches, 2 desktops, 5 active laptops (several more retired), not to mention that I like the ability to allow guests to use the wireless.

I'm no longer using MAC filtering but I'm disappointed to hear that a "platinum" series router is limited to 24 MAC addresses.

Why would such a low limit (24) be necessary? Why not 256? Or 1024?

DIR-655 is a Platinum Home/Small office router. If you want to connect more than 24 devices to him, you need a business router, and a platinum business router costs way over 100€
