Wishlist:

  • Missing is also still the multi-channel playback, even though Playback supports playback for up to 4 (choice is either 1 or 4 cameras) local cameras. The "Exceed the Playback maximum channels" error-message is still there.
  • Still testing multi channel Remote Live Viewer (remote playback probably has same lack of multi-channel playback support)
  • UAC is required to be off before Console can be run, even though all data-paths are personalized to acceptable locations. Workaround is to run it in a VM environment where UAC can be off. Works acceptable in VMWare Player, but is quite a drain on machine.

Does the following accurately capture/summarize your concerns? (if not please clarify)

For d-viewcam to run the minimum resolution is 1024x768. I can't run it on my netbook which is 1024x600. Could they drop this minimum resolution equirement?

I would like to be able to follow up on an event in real time.  When a motion event occurs I have to wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before I can view it in Playback. This implies viewing the video data stream from a buffer in memory until the disk file is closed.  It may be memory intensive but I really hate waiting so long before I can follow up on an event.  This would really make DVC more interactive and useful.

I would like to see I/O Device events (for example, from a PIR sensor) associated with each camera as an Event Type in the DateTime Search Dialog.

How about ONVIF support so I can add other IP cams?

The more I use DVC, the more I like it!  Keep up the good work.

Added all three items. I doubt D-Link will enable support for non-D-Link cameras given that this software is available at no cost.

Hi.
First of all, thanks for this thread Javalawyer!
I have a few things to report.

-This software was originally thought and developed for 4:3 ratio (older type) resolutions. Nowadays, everything comes in 16:9 format, the cameras and the displays. Adding a 16:9 widescreen template/design would be not only refreshing, but a nice addition of viewing/working space by getting rid of the black bars at the sides.
Besides, related to this there are important visual bugs to consider:
-When set to fullscreen for viewing, the cameras images are stretched to cover the whole display (no black bars at the sides). The program thinks it's a 4:3 display, if owned a 16:9 monitor, this results in cameras looking deformed (wider), even the cameras with widescreen resolutions look awful. This bug would be easily addressed changing the algorithm from STRETCH to FIT the screen.
- In fact, in playback mode, there's a button to correct the aspect ratio. It works, but it would be great if the program remembered your choice for each camera. And by default the algorithm is to STRETCH (images in fullscreen are deformed), and it should be FIT.

Minor bugs:
- In playback mode, by default you're provided the 4 x 4 grid camera view. But you're not allowed to play more than one camera recordings at a time. So by default, it would be great to be provided the 1 x 1 single view and get rid of the 4x4 option, there is no need to split the screen.
- In playback mode, let's say you search by date and time (e.g. to see what happened 3 months ago), make a selection and then accept it, whenever you want to choose another period of time and you click the "open record" icon, you're thrown back to today's date. That's annoying, because you have to browse through the calendar again from zero. It would be great if the program remembered the date you chose previously and showed this instead.

Super wish, for which I'd probably need to find first a magic lamp  ;D
- It would be FANTASTIC if added a feature to the program that allowed the use of the full screen view as the windows desktop. This way we would have the cameras 'always on bottom'. This feature would make DViewCam the best surveilance software out there.

I own DCS-2121 and DCS-2130 (newer) cameras. If you need a better explanation or captures, I can post them.
I really hope the developer(s) address these issues, it's definitely worth it.

If this is the exact list you give to the developer(s) and they have no more details about it, I tweaked them a bit to be more accurate:

•General - In playback mode, fix to remember the last searched date in the calendar (without this fix, every time the "browse recordings" dialog is opened the calendar is set back to today).
•View - Add a Main Console 16:9 widescreen template/design (no black bars on the sides of the screen), meaning native support for 16:9 aspect ratio monitors/displays.
•View - Add savable viewing options for each camera: Stretch - Fill - Fit to fix bad aspect ratio on cameras in 16:9 displays.
•View - In playback mode, change default view to 1x1 grid camera view (instead of the default 4x4 grid camera view which is useless as you're allowed to play one recording at a time) [IGNORE IF BUG #6 ON THE LIST IS ADDRESSED]
•View - Add ability to set the DViewcam's full screen view as the Windows desktop background (rather than a static image), like a live wallpaper behind the desktop icons.

One more BUG, more persistent now.

Bug - When running 24/7 Scheduled Recording on multiple cameras the 'Low on diskspace' event regularily occurs, even with 250GB free! And is independent of type of threshold setting (be it percentage or days).

This results in a half-hearted attempt to clean up old recordings (does not do anything actually, only reports doing it) and STOPS the Recording schedule.

This mostly happens few seconds (26 on average) after midnight (folder-switch just happened) and currently about once a week. Could be an byte-alignment/word-size (type-casting) mismatch error in the source when checking for free space.

This lowers the reliability of functionality of DVR-recording, and requires regular baby-sitting/nursing.

WORKAROUND: Modify Scheduled Recording to stop at 23:58 and start up again at 0:01. And, oddly enough, this seems to be working fine.

I have a bug to report.
When you power on your machine and windows is loaded, if you have Dviewcam configured to be loaded "on windows start" and minimized to tray automatically AND you have the audio of any of your cams turned on, although it does start automatically and does minimize to the tray, you hear the live audio from the cameras. To fix this you have to open the main console and minimize it again to stop hearing the audio every time you start the machine.

And a thing it would be easy and cool to fix: I didn't setup an admin password (it's blank), I don't need it as no one undesirable can access my machine. Every time I try to access the Main Console, the dialog of user/pass appears, the default admin is already written and as I didn't input any password I just have to click OK. But every time I access the Main Console from its minimized state, the login dialog pops up unnecessarily. It would be nice to get rid of the login dialog if you don't set up a password for DViewcam.

I'll try to be clearer about this bug. I hope it helps and someone confirms it.
It's been happening to me in all released versions since DViewcam version 3.0 (first one I tried). I have Windows 7 64bit, DCS-2121s and my Dviewcam is configured to play the audio from one of the channels.
I figured I had two different experiences:
1) Particuarly in my last install, when I start the machine, DViewcam starts minimized and the warning "primary disk for both the OS and Dviewcam storage (...)" comes up. Accepting this message stops the audio.
2) On previous installs, I had set up DViewcam storage on a secondary HDD so that message did not come up, instead, in order to stop the audio I had to open the main console and minimize it again.

It's like the audio plays while DViewcam is in the background since windows starts, whenever you focus on the Main Console and minimize it again to the tray then the audio stops as it should. I think the Main Console does not start in the background entirely correctly.

My wish: Using audio from soundcard (microphone jack) for all ip cameras at live preview and recording instead of the audio input from particular ip camera.
Explanation: We are using external microphones and an audio mixer for our sound source. This source should be used for all ip cameras.

Add android/mobile phone web support (or release android software) to access Remote Live view and Remote Playback from DViewCam server through your mobile phone/tablet.
Access to these services is currently limited to (I think) windows/ie PCs.

I've been testing DViewcam 3.3.

BUGS
•Remote live viewer is not accessible ("Internet explorer stopped working" message appears when login dialog box is supposed to appear. Tried on 3 different 'client' machines with IE9 Win7x64). Remote Playback does work perfectly.

FIXED - Please keep it up ;)
•General - In playback mode, add ability to recall last searched date in the calendar (currently each time the "Browse Recordings" dialog is opened the calendar defaults to the present day)
•General - Provide a means to disable the pop-up dialog box providing an optimization-hint of using the OS HDD for primary storage

Thanks for the additions and bug fix updates!  ;)

Bug:
Be able to choose between the different recording/playback channels when configuring each camera. Inside DViewcam camera config there's a label "Channel" with a selectbox showing "1" but doesn't change anything if ticked or not, it doesn't show any more options no matter how many channels, what codecs and resolutions you had set up. DViewCam always uses the channel 1 of any camera.

Wish:
Automatically fading out or at least normal control buttons in fullscreen when in playback mode. You have to quit full screen to pause play stop forward or take any action right now.

Wish:
•General - Logging (and searchable) camera-specific I/O device events/dates
Also log IR light cut filter automatic triggers.

Fixed?
•Audio - Support for duplex sound (i.e. speaker activation on the remote camera)
I 'm not sure how old this entry is, I own a DCS-2230 with a built in speaker. In Dviewcam you can enable it and talk through the microphone and disable it when done, and I'm pretty sure its the same with the other cameras that have sound output (even if not having a speaker built in, like the DCS-2130). It's working perfectly with DViewcam.
Possibly fixed, needs testing:

•General - ONVIF support (for non-D-Link networked cameras)
There's now an option to add ONVIF compatible cameras apart from DLink manufactured cameras. I don't have any besides DLink ones so can't confirm if working.

Hey, I have some new stuff Java.
The ones starting with - are new inputs. The ones starting with +, already exist but have slight changes and shouldn't be marked blue as new inputs just for this addition.

Logs:
+ Log all events (DI triggers, DO triggers, IR light on/off, connection drops, PIR motion detection), make them searchable and viewable on the timeline (in playback mode).
- If you have a 24/7 scheduled recording profile (instead of recording on motion detection), motion detection isn't logged on the timeline nor anywhere.

Events/Actions:
- Bug: Even if there is a 1-10 second interruption (quite common) in a network connection with a camera, if configured, the alarm/action for "Camera not connected" is triggered unnecessarily. We should be able to choose how long they have to remain disconnected before triggering the alarm, or at least set it to a minimum of 30-60 secs.
- Add Event: if (selectable source: PIR or software) movement is not detected during a scheduled (e.g daily) time frame, then trigger alarm/action. (Very useful for nannys, babysitting, employee attendance, etc.)
- Event triggers --> add action 'visit website url' (e.g. visit php file on external server, would allow to run any script/alarm you want anywhere)

Motion Detection hardware support:
- Feature Motion Detection on Dviewcam using integrated PIR of camera instead of Dviewcam software motion detection solution.

Visuals:
+ A new, refreshing and modern graphical user interface design with native support for 16:9 widescreen monitors taking advantage of the space these provide.
+ Add 'stretch','fill','fit' options for each camera to solve the cameras aspect ratio problems and remember this config for every cam in playback mode as well.
- Bug: Web Live view and Remote Playback cameras config should match dviewcam main console config. e.g.: The OSD labels are always ON every time you access any of the web services.

Codecs:
- Add newer, better codecs (xvid, h264, mpeg4) and file formats (mp4, mkv, flv) for exporting video files.
- Reduce encoding times!
- Bug: G711 audio codec is awful with Dviewcam (during live streams and recordings playback), a lot of noise, sound is almost incomprehensible. (G726 works perfectly!)

Development:
- Regular (six-monthly maybe?) updates for DviewCam. It's been a whole year and counting without any updates.  :-\
- Feedback from the developer on this forum, some website, etc. so that we can followup and support him.

Cheers  :)

I would have worked on this sooner, but wow!, you gave me lots of work!!!

Everything is added... Understandably, I was unable to add your last two development points, as this is a software functionality wishlist.  Although perhaps we can change the scope of the list (I'll give it some thought).

Thanks for your contribution!!!  ;)

- Windows 8 support (DViewCam 3.2-3.3 workaround: use the Windows 8 trouble shooter and set D-View Cam's Main Console to XP service pack 3 compatibility mode. Otherwise it will not run)
Credits to lancemoreland for this one.

- Bug: whenever the windows process "explorer" crashes and gets restarted automatically (can emulate this by manually stopping and relaunching explorer), the DViewCam eye icon on the system tray disappears. Then, although DviewCam MainConsole is running in the background, you can't access it again. If you launch the main console.exe or any of the shorctus to it, a message box appears saying you cannot launch it as the process already running; but it does not lead you to the program.
A solution to this, is whether to restart the machine or to load the task manager, force the Main Console process to stop, and then start it again. But this is not good as the recording gets interrupted in a sudden, and then the database has to be repaired, definitely not good for the hard disk.

It would be nice if you could re-arrange or re-size the tiles in the views.  We have a client that has purchased only has 4 cameras that is monitoring at various TV's throughout their location but they also have an active phone extension monitoring software and a spreadsheet that updates from their POS for open work orders.  They have settled on the 6 cam view and are using the blank space for these, but it is not exactly what they want as they want the first one to be smaller, but the next one to be a little larger.  Just a wish list request.  Thanks for looking.

- Bug:
"Display setting has been changed and system will be restarted now. Yes / No" --> This message appears whenever you run a program in fullscreen (a 3D game for example) with a different resolution than the desktop resolution which is quite common. It looks as if the DviewCam software detected the screen resolution change and considered this change to be permanent, that's why it asks for a reboot. Clicking "No" makes the message go away and the program keeps running perfectly, clicking "yes" reboots the machine, however, doesn't change anything apparently. Coding problems?

Three more wishes:

- option to disable D-ViewCam login authentication requirement locally. I mean, if you are the only user that has physical access to your computer you simply don't want to input the password every time you restore D-ViewCam from the minimized state. The authentication should still be required to access the program externally (Remote Live view and Remote Playback and all the web services) for security purposes.

- Be able to hear sound from more than one camera at the same time.

I hope I'm clear about this one. It's useful when your cameras are not within your lan but connected to a D-ViewCam server through the internet instead:
- rtsp stream urls provided by D-ViewCam available to access the cameras that are being monitored by D-ViewCam. Remote access to these would use the server bandwith (and not the bandwith from where each camera is hosted which results in a split and therefore reduced bandwith [that may end up affecting video quality/fps] to both the D-viewCam server [that is always monitoring/recording] and the client accessing the camera rtsp stream client).

  • Fixed live view bug for DCS-930/932L/930L/910/920 (DBG12060162)

This new Device Pack v1.4.3.1 fixed the following bug, it's not happening any more and working alright.
•Bug - Remote live viewer is not accessible ("Internet explorer stopped working" message displays instead of login (Remote playback function normally)

- If you setup a scheduled maintenance reboot (eg daily at 00 hours) the PC reboots even if you are working on it at that time. You could potentially lose your work when the reboot is triggered.
The reboot should be aborted or rescheduled (30 minutes?) if the PC has not been idle for let's say the last 10 minutes previous to the reboot time.
Although you're supposed to schedule a reboot time for a certain hour when you are not expected to be using the computer, it can get you by surprise occasionally and the consequences can be dramatic.

- Make the web services (web live view and remote playback) compatible with other popular browsers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers) (Google Chrome, Firefox). They're only working on IE.

It's a pity we did not report DV version for each entry, especially for the bugs; that would have been helpful. The lack of feedback from the developer/s made the list very long and untidy and it's highly probable that the older entries were addressed in previous released versions. Maybe the list would be better if ordered according to the date and time the entries were added and keep the fixed ones crossed out on the same list, I don't know. But yeah, it could be a pain in the ass to rearrange them in this order... nevermind.

- Bug (D-ViewCam v3.3, v3.2 and probably older versions)
After a certain amount of time, let's say 24, 48 hs or so D-ViewCam stops receiving audio from 1 or + cameras (happened to me with several models; the cameras are not the problem and can be verified accessing them through the web). This is a big issue because until you restart the program, sound from that camera/s is obviously not recorded.
To avoid this one affect you big time, D-ViewCam lets you schedule an autoreboot of the machine every 24hs, that's what I did.

- Wish, related to the above bug
It would be nice to be able to schedule an autorestart of the program D-ViewCam itself (as of D-ViewCam v3.3 you can schedule an autoreboot of the computer but in a lot of cases that is unnecessary and lessens the life span of the hardware).

Thought about doing this with other D-Link devices, but the list got so long that with chronological order sorting it was impossible to determine if something was already on the list without reading through every line item.  categorized listing made more sense.

My screen resolution is 2560 x 1600, i can open D-ViewCam but it's obviously not made for these resolutions as it looks like the resolution of D-ViewCam is 1920 x 1080 as there's a lot of blank/black space around the main window. if i try to make it full screen D-ViewCam freezes and i have to close it using task manager.

Are other D-ViewCam users observing this issue?

I just started using the D-ViewCam software after purchasing the 932L, 942L and 5020L. In the Smart Guard Configuration, it would be nice to have an event based on a sound trigger. Let's say camera 942L, located in the garage, picks up a sound level past its threshold (the event). You could have your PTZ camera (located in the window of your house) look outside to see what's happening (Action = move to preset 'garageview').

The same could happen inside the house. Let's say the PTZ is monitoring the backyard through the window and a loud sound event occurs inside the house. You could have the PTZ set to go to preset 'insideview'.

The action list could be made more robust by adding delays, move camera to preset, etc...

The D-ViewCam desktop application supports multiple live feeds. Are you referring to the D-ViewCam mobile app?

I have the desktop version running. It is the remote viewer for the desktop version that will only view 1 camera when pointed back at the main desktop version.

Solve the UAC problem !!

Why is the UAC problem still not solved ?!?!?!?
This is a problem for Windows 8.1 user that need UAC on to use apps !!

And D-ViewCam v3.60 can´t start on Surface pro in 1920*1080 whit big fonts (default)
Message Resolution not over 1024*768. But it is 1920*1080 !!

To solve the problem I changed to mid fonts = to small for other appl !!

Change to 1680*1050 big fonts works to but not 1920*1080 whit big fonts (default)

** View on secondary monitor screen **

I have two monitors connected to my primary computer, and unless I have missed something somewhere, I have not been able to drag my DVC screen to the second monitor, thus leaving my primary monitor for normal work while still being able to use the DVC as a "monitor only" (no recording) screen.

If I am correct, and that is not something it is capable of presently, then I would like to add it to the wishlist.

In Windows 7 (not sure about other OS's), you can use the Windows+Shift+Left or Right arrow keys to move the DVC window between monitors.  This works for any application window actually, not just DVC.

Thank You Thank You Thank You , did I say THANK YOU !  This has been a major problem for me !

I would like to be able to drag to other screens though as I like to disable the windows key on my keyboard as it is a feature to do so to stop it being accidentally hit while gaming . I have a toggle switch on my keyboard for this . I too vote for the ability to drag the software to other screens please , this is common with most applications and would certainly be appreciated . The ability to resize it would also be nice .

Thanks .

Is it possible to add support for DCS-825L (the baby cam) as its the only DLink camera our of my set which doesn't work in this software.

I vote for:

Visual - Support for multiple monitors (i.e. ability to display D-ViewCam on a secondary monitor)

A "windowed" version that doesn't require full-screen viewing of the desktop app and, more importantly, the remote viewer app, assuming it is fixed to support multiple streams.

Thanks!

I saw the following entry in the master list:

General - ONVIF support (for non-D-Link networked cameras) [FIXED!]

Does this mean that non-DLink cameras can be used? If so, how do I enable this?

Thanks!
