Problems connecting to the DSi.
« on: November 19, 2011, 01:49:25 PM »

I have a DIR-655 B1 router. The firmware is 2.00 NA. Just to clarify, the DSi itself does work with WPA, but the games only work with WEP. I made a guest account and set it to WEP and it still does not work. I have tried making the main connection WEP as well, but when I go on the game and try it, it says it is WPA and not WEP. My friend has a DIR-655 as well, but the hardware and firmware version are different. Her games work flawlessly.
Any ideas or suggestions? Can I even fix this?  :(

THe UI is about the same between A and B versions.
Can you check here settings on her router and see what she has them set for?
Match them up.

Possible you might have to do a FW update.

My firmware version is newer than hers. Our settings match up almost entirely. Since the firmware is different, there are some things that are different, but for the most part it's the same.

Heard there have been issues with DSi units and connecting. I wish Sony would stop using WEP. WPA is preferred. If you turn off the WiFi security, does the DSi connect as a test?
Are you sure you are entering in the PW correctly?

There is v2.03 for your unit.

Since the 3DS came out, hopefully I'll be the last one with this problem.  ;)

I have tried turning on WEP without a password and that did not work - if that's what you mean by turning off Wifi security.
I made my password 10 1's to be sure.

I'll try the firmware update and get back to you.

No, that is not what he meant. Remove the password doesn't take away the lock, it just makes it so there is no key. You have to set your Security mode to "None" then save the settings. I have a feel it won't even connect then. I quote Nintendo support site:

"Network Speed Compatibility
802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g are protocol for exchanging data, with the letter designations indicating network speeds. In order for the Nintendo DS to be compatible with your router, the router's Network Speed must not be set to just "g." Set your router to "mixed" so that it is using both "b" and "g" settings."

So you have to set your 802.11 mode to mixed N, G, and B. That is going to slow down the rest of your wireless network though. And there is no way of broadcasting the guest zone as a different 802.11 then your main wireless so your kind of stuck. Your only way is to either accept the decrease in wireless speed, or buy a AP (probably a cheaper B/G one) and connect it wired to the DIR-655.

It is already set to mixed.

Oh, and. We have tried setting security to "None" which still did not work.

I would try:

Enable Wireless: Check
Network Name: <insert name here>
802.11 Mode: Mixed N, G, and B.
Enable Auto Channel Scan: Uncheck
Wireless Channel: 11
Transmission rate: Best
Channel Width: 20 Mhz
Visability Status: Visable

Security Mode: None

If that doesn't work, try setting it to B only. If THAT doesn't work, time to call Nintendo.

We fixed the problem by completely disabling guest zone.  :D
Thanks everyone!
