Title: FTP recording for DCS-942L suddenly not working
Post by: happyhere on March 28, 2017, 10:21:27 AM

DCS-942L revA, firmware 1.27

Suddenly FTP is not working. Before it was working fine as can see in the FTP server and nothing changed on camera.

The 942L can connect to FTP server and create the FTP folder, date folder and the time folder. It is only failing when is about to put the JPG file. weird

Same FTP user/pass is working fine in another dlink camera.

Using PASIV Mode on FTP?

FTP has access for camera and no file restrictions?
Turn off ALL other cameras and test with 942 alone?
Review this for setting up FTP. Tt's for DNS however can be similar to help check FTP on camera:

Any thing change on the FTP side? Drives or security configurations?
Try a different FTP share or PC.

yes, is using PASV ftp.

If I plug 942L via LAN cable, the ftp will work fine.
Using Wifi under 1 to 3 feet, it will fail to send JPG but creates empty folder on target ftp server

Yes I have tested the 942L alone and still failed intermittently.   It is really weird, I have done full reset and still same results
Might be my 942L is the oldest of the cams (> 4years) and nearing it's death :D
Anyway, it is still online at the moment, only ftp is failing.

If the LAN connection is working for FTP and wireless isn't, maybe an wireless configuration issue and not a camera HW issue.

I'd review your wireless settings on your main host router for any issues here. Ensure that any separation or wireless protection or partitioning is disabled on the main host router.

Are you able to put an SD card in and record continously?

I wonder if the power supply can't keep up... it might not even make it to the ftp anymore?

4 years is a good run though.  Just need to use it in a different capacity and replace it.

I guess only other concern would be wireless isn't working fast enough and another trigger is happening causing the first ftp to abort via upload.

good suggestion, let me disable SD recording on 942L  (try if power supply issue).
current use of SD card is for motion detect only

router is fast enough (dir-885L), 3 other IP cams can send FTP image w/o any problem.
i hope this 942L dies so I have reason to replace it with 960L :D

That really reminds me: My 2132l could not keep up with sd card & ftp w/ motion detection.
The "start 3 seconds" before motion detection turned into 6 seconds after motion detection most of the time.
This was 4 years ago so micro sd cards weren't super fast(not sure if it would make a difference).
Anyways, I quit sd recording, ended up writing the cam after constantly having interference issues.
Motion detection settings to aggressive could also trip up the cam and cause no or missing files(just files that day motion detected).

update..
this 942L is working now.  I dont know the root cause.

but it was powered OFF for 2 weeks.  after re-apply power, it was not working properly even factory reset.
for several days, ftp is not working.   I just left it run since I dont have time to troubleshoot.

now, ftp is working again after 3 weeks without me doing anything, no change in router/camera settings and location of both is same.
maybe this camera needs some heavy warm up to get going.

There was a maintenance period with the MDL service...
Glad it's working now.  ;)
