Router Ignores WAN Ping Setting
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:25:48 PM »

Using DIR-601 hardware version B1, Firmware 2.00NA

I am debugging problems I've had with this router, so it is set up on my network so I can access it from both the WAN and LAN side. If I ping the router from the WAN side, I get a very fast response. But when I disable ping from the administrative tools from the LAN side and reboot the router, I still get responses to my ping!.

I know the router is responding because if I disconnect the WAN cable from the router (connected to "INTERNET", the pings stop.

So the router is ignoring user settings at Advanced->Advanced Network->WAN PING!

Looks like a firmware bug. Anyone with similar experiences?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

As stated previously, the firmware is 2.00NA and the hardware is version B1. I'm in North America.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
Try a factory reset and setup the router from scratch?

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
