Odd DIR-600L Behaviors
« on: June 27, 2014, 07:32:35 AM »

Need help to interpret behaviors of the DIR-600L :

1. The feature to view Active Sessions (under the Status tab) lists the IPs addresses of active LAN devices, at times the IP address of the router itself and my WAN IP address. With a bridged modem and Dynamic DNS, I assume this is because the router communicates with my ISP and visa-versa, with the DDNS service provider, with the NTP server, and probably more ?
However, for up to 17 minutes NAPT sessions list as active a LAN IP long after power to the device (e.g. a DCS-930L) is pulled, even after pushing the "Refresh" button several times. Why is that ?

2. The NAPT sessions list may show the WAN IP of one particular subscriber viewing the camera via a web page (written around the cam's applet) but not the IPs of multiple other viewers, - and how come that particular viewer's IP will even appear in the cam's User List (Status tab / Active user) logged in as "admin" when viewing via the web page ??

3. How come my internet speed drops significantly while that particular subscriber is viewing ?  Malware here, or at the subscriber's ?

Thanks,

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I resume that #1 is how the FW is designed and may hold a small amount of historical information until such time that the FW times out and clears the data. There maybe a time frame thats needed to hold this information before the data needs to be clear depending upon if the data and connections maybe still needed or comes back during this time frame.

I'd post this question on the DCS-930L forum as this may be the behavior of the camer rather than the router.

A drop maybe seen since the router is having to direct camera stream traffic now and you might try to set the QoS or Traffic Controls to a lower priority while users are streaming from the camera.

HW = Sticker and box say "A1", 192.168.0.1 displays "Ax".
FW = 1.14
Region = US

You may be right re. the router retaining NAPT info for a certain period of time, probably with the intent to have it ready should the device re-connect, but in the scenario where a DCS-930L is re-connected before the time is up, the router still goes thru the motion to authenticate and lease the reserved IP to the cam.

Not a big concern, just odd behavior since the "Refresh" button doesn't refresh !!

Thanks for the quick feedback, though.
