1) No, this router does not have a crash recovery mode.
2) No, you cannot roll back to any earlier firmware, once upgrading past 1.2x+
3) No, editing the binary will not work.  If anything, you would brick your router due to a binary mismatch.

I would put it as more we're not allowed to go back.

D-Link should pressure the group they contracted those services for it. I don’t remember any f/w or seeing it mentioned as a feature that the dgl-4500 will have to be restarted every 3-6 days to maintain operation. But here we are….

It has been over a month now and we don’t have a fix, which was the same last year. Glad to see they still have the time to come out with new products but none to fix the old.

Has anyone been getting IP protocol 17 and IP protocol 6 for wireless connections near the time when a restart is needed? I was able to see it right before the router stopped me from accessing it through the browser. After the restart I’ve yet to see them.

well, i have only read the first page, but, i am already convinced not to download this beta, i have 1.20, and it is running fine, at one point when i was connecting a PSP it went offline, so i did a hard reboot, as far as signal loss, ever since i put a set of HawkingTech's [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna, i have not had any, i stress, ANY loss in signal.  as stated from their website...

"Hawking Technologies™ HAI7SIP, 2.4GHz Hi-Gain WiFi antenna boosts your wireless signal strength from 2dBi (standard power) to 7dBi."

i have three of these.  and i have not had any issues, soon i will get one more signal amplifier, i have two right now... DIR-625 is what i used before, i had an extra antenna, so when i got the DGL-4500, i already had the antenna's replacements.  soon though, i will be blasting my signal.

those of you who are suffering this signal loss, i recommend you take a trip over to HawkingTech for their range boosting antenna's, D-Link for the routers, HawkingTech for the Antenna's.

Had one. Had a Netgear before that. Both sucked hard for one reason or other. The only router that's been stable for me for years is an ancient Linksys WRT54G.

has anyone tried turning off DNS relay feature in the network settings, DIR-655 users claim that fixes the freezing & web gui loading problems after 3-4 days.

If you do that then you have to enable a lan side dns or you will not be able to connect to the net.

If you do that then you have to enable a lan side dns or you will not be able to connect to the net.

In order for me to disable dns relay, I also need to disable advaced DNS service. However, after disabiling those and adding a primary dns from comcast, nothing can be brought up on the web (error locating local remote server).
