WOW, 8 days is great. How about trying it in multimode. My Wii only uses "g" and my sons Nintendo DS only uses "b". And the computers use "n".

You would do well to read some other reviews on the 855 first before dropping your cash on it.

well ... if you had to recommend a router to me with dual 2.4 / 5 ghz at the same time ans gigabit lan which one would be it? screen is defenitely not neccessary ...

IEEE 802.11b traffic pre-empts draft N.  Your entire network loses N capability while an IEEE802.11b device is associated.  You could be running an IEEE802.11g/b router with no difference in wireless capability.

Thanks, didn't know that. But its a good thing he doesn't use his Nintendo DS too much.

To make matters worse it just occurred to me (as the DS does not support WPA) that means you are either running no security (not a great idea in most circumstances) or are running WEP (which also pre-empts Draft N also).

I've heard good things about the Airport Extreme, http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/.  It's similar to the dir-855(two radios, gigabit wan and lan ports), but cheaper and the Airport Extreme does not have QoS or an OLED screen.

Wow! 3/5 rating on newegg for the dir-855, and it's $250!  I thought the 4500 was a lot when it first came out.

I wish I would have gotten the Linksys wrt600n and put ddwrt on it, but I've heard they changed the hardware so it's not possible anymore.

As posted in another thread.

I've had 12 days Uptime, but I'm still getting lockups.  The lockup just occurs farther between than other users.

I caught the router locking up today.  I logged into it, and attempted to retrieve the logs, where the router reported that it was running low on memory.  A second attempt specified that the router was out of memory and then completely locked up.  Depending upon your usage of the router, this might explain why different usage patterns can lead to widely different experiences.

I get a lot of extraneous logged due to 2 FIOS settox boxes broadcasting on what the -4500 considers an unroutable network.  It should just ignore the traffic, but it logs an entry, once every few seconds.  Additional traffic due to what happens on the network or WAN facing can lead to a very full log.  I don't see any way to trim or adjust the log retention values.  If I uncheck INFO, I don't believe this actually reduces the level of logging, it only reduces what is displayed.  The logging information is still kept in the router memory.

Ru-Fi-Oh, may I ask what hardware revision you're testing with?

Thanks!

There is a Nintendo DS that actually does support WPA now.  It's the Nintendo DSi.  I found this out not too long ago.

It is a much bigger improvement that I had realized, they did not stress the important features enough and instead only advertised the cameras.

Oh, thanks, weoh! Somehow I missed the A1 info. Ooops!

OK, well, this is a puzzle then, isn't it? We're having _almost_ no post-1.20 success stories with A1 hardware.

Ru-Fi-Oh's device seems to be behaving differently.

It appears that it's not a unusual scenario that's causing the problem, because the issue seems to be so widespread.

Were there bad batches of DGL-4500s?

Is there a D-Link rep here who would be willing to send me an A2 (or more recent) for testing? I seem to be having very consistant outages with my A1, so I may be a good candidate for a real-world study.
