Title: Unable to delete reserved IP addresses?
Post by: slakkr on January 22, 2015, 05:12:19 PM
Possibly a bug. I can't seem to find the place in the UI where I can delete reserved IP address from the device I no longer have. Now when I attempt to assign new device to that IP address I get duplicate error. Is there any other way besides resetting the router?

You should be able to slight the Reserve slider bar back from enable to disable and that should un-reserve the IP address. Then Save the setting.

Yeah, if that would be that easy I wouldn't ask the question.  The UI of this router doesn't show the device which is not currently connected and since I don't have the device I can't make that box appear so I could see that slider.

Hmm, interesting...I guess we need to remove any reservations before disconnecting devices that we won't be using any more before the device is no longer needed...I presume this isn't correct behavior. You may need to avoid this one Reserved IP address. I presume a factory reset would clear the hidden reservation. I'll ask and see if there is any information on this. I've packed my 880L up for shipping on loan to a ISP for testing. So I can't verify this. Maybe others can. I'll post back if I get some information.

There is no way to see which IP addresses are reserved unless you click each one and if it's offline it's gone from the list.

Ya sounds like something is missing. I presume for now, before you disconnect any device from the router, even if your not going to use it any more, would be best to disable the reservation ON the router first. Save settings so that the IP is freed up. I've passed this along to D-Link for review. Please be patient.

I recommend doing so...At least it will help let them know that there is an issue. Talk to level 2 or higher support...
Let us know what they say...

Just did, got the guy who was taking note on my previous issue with loop back. He said he'll try to reproduce it and call me back.

He called me back, said they could reproduce it and will fix it in the firmware. Not sure how long it takes, but at least it's good news.

Awesome...ya. Might give it a month or two...they just released one last last year. Would need to develop a fix, test it fully.

For now, just remember to disable the reservation before you disconnect any devices that you not going to be using any more.

Thanks for following up.  ;)

The problem is being reviewed by D-Link and is aware of it. We hope the next FW update will fix this.

I am surprised twice by this. First of all, this went unnoticed for quite a while since the router was released and this is nothing new, it's an obvious feature that every router should have regardless being high or low end device where you can easily see and manage reserved addresses.

Ya, it's a one off and I didn't catch it. I presume just something that slipped by and wasn't really thought of or may have bee noticed.  I think we just presumed that reservation behavior wasn't an issue in this regard after disconnecting a device and not being able to see the reservation it left behind.  It's a new UI and i'm sure a few things may have appeared. There was an issue in reserving IP addresses out of the gate which as been fixed. I'm sure this will be fixed. Its not a show stopper. ;)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you joking....are you guys NEW? How the hell was this option omitted! I'm sitting here in my office where I am setting up a new PC. The old one died so it is no longer an option to reconnect it and delete the reserved IP. There are many processes over the network which rely on a static IP.......BUT I CAN'T SET THE IP BECAUSE THE UI IS MISSING THE OPTION TO REMOVE RESERVED IPs. At the very least when an IP conflict is detected there should be an option to replace the device.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

D-Link is aware of the problem and is working on it..
For now, do not set any reservations on the router for your devices. You can set static IP addresses ON the devices out side of the routers  DHCP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58017.0)  IP address pool which will help avoid conflict in IP addressing until this is fixed.
I recommend factory resetting the router and then set up the router again, just don't set any IP reservations.

Please refrain from using profane language here in the forums!!!

Thank you.

Fortunately I had saved the MAC address of the old NIC in a text file. I was able to just Change the NIC MAC of the new computer to that of the old one. I was then able to remove the IP reserved to that MAC address.

What region are you located?

Glad you were able to get the reservation re-configured. D-Link is aware of this and is working on it as most users would not normally have this kind of work around available to them and is not recommended to change the MAC addresses on devices.

We hope the next FW release will have this fix.

There isn't a Rev B version of the 880L.

Can you confirm the router model and Rev version please?

Sorry I forget to write a model 860L. But problem is the same. After I set up static IP address and remove device I can't setup the same address without reset the router.

v2.03 is the last release version and hasn't been anything since.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Let us know how it goes please.

You could try DDWRT if they support it. You'll need to check with them to see if it's supported. If so then I would review there support site for help and information on installation. They will have all information regarding installation and going back to OEM FW. OpenWRT is also supported on the 860L Rev B I believe.
You can use this as well to revert back to OEM FW should you not like WRT:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)

This board is for the 880L. Please post over on the DIR-860L for your future needs regarding OEM FW issues:

Thank you.
