Yes, let us know the version your currently using.

I recommend starting a support ticket with your regional D-Link support office:
http://www.dlink.com/bg/bg/support/contact?product=DIR-605L&description=Bad+wireless+after+1+hour+of+operation

Be aware that you cracked the case on the router thus probably voiding the warranty. So not sure if you can get any RMA help on this. Unless you put it back to to original design.  ::)

Hi there,

Product Page : DIR-605L / Hardware Version : B2 / Firmware Version : 2.06UI

I will raise that with support.

The case is not broken or something - it just pops on and off. There are however screwdriver marks (while popping it open) so I guess that still does count as voiding the warranty. Anyhow I will redo the firmware thing soon and see what happens next.

T.

Might try v2.08 as I see it's available as well. Not sure if it will help. Worth trying.

Good Luck.

Hello,

Okey so despite the different support pages showing different release latest firmwares, and everywhere a different release date is shown, I installed 2.08 b02. I did as suggested. Factory reset. Install new firmware (cabled). Factory reset. Setup. Testing - same thing. 50-60% drop in speed both in WiFi and LAN. Also, both the chips on the board have heatsinks on them now. I give up.

I guess that is normal for a 15 EUR router. It will keep the average Joe connected to the internet but apparently it just can't sustain anything above 25 Mbps, let alone 300 as advertised.

I would give your regional D-Link support office a call and ask for an RMA. I presume this router maybe faulty is all.

300Mb is a connection rate between the router and wireless devices that support 300Mb connection rates, it's not a actual data transfer rate.

Hello,

Local Dlink support agreed what I am reporting is impossible, and told me to avail of the warranty. I did, and I just spoke with the tech who was testing my router. He claims the router has been working since yesterday and he's getting 80 Mbps on LAN, and 30-40 Mbps on WiFi. Claims everything works fine and there's no problem with the router.

I guess that even though I am paying for fast internet, and fast 300 Mbps external dual antenna wifi adapter, I'm still not gonna be getting anything more than 20 Mbps wifi and 40 on lan. Seems there's no way to convince them it doesn't do its job.

@ FurryNutz - I am much obliged for your assistance in this matter!

Best,
T.

You might try and get someone on site to review your router settings and situation.

Be aware that 300Mb is a connection rate between the router and wireless connected devices. Not a actual throughput speed.

I recommend that maybe testing a new router out will be of some help as well.

Good Luck.

Hi there,

I've tried with Stock Settings, and with custom settings. I've tried 20 mhz, and 40 mhz channels, Ehance mode enabled/disabled, hidden SSID, Unsecure/secure, firewall with/without, everything. Behavior is all the same. Here are some screenshots prooving that the router is generally capable:

Speed tests done at different times of the day, but still just after the router has rebooted, show I'm getting the bigger part of my 75 Mbps downlink speed easily. Mind you, that is from the second floor of the house, while router is on the first. Yet 1-2 hours later we're back at 30 Mbps until rebooted again.

I will try getting another router just for the sake of testing, but I did encounter a post on another forum, where a user reported the exact same situation, to which Dlink responded by sending a replacement router (Rev A though). The user reported the problem with it was even worse. So I assume this is somewhat normal for this model.

Are you getting to spec speeds on a wired PC?

Yes, both via the router and directly with the cable from the street into the PC. Though LAN speeds also tend to drop in time, but remain better than WIFI is.

If your getting spec speeds on wired then this is all that needs to be done. Wireless can be problematic on any router and due to all the variables in wireless and wireless devices, speeds seen on wireless may not be accurate due to these variables. Especially on 2.4Ghz. Again, wireless connection rates differ from actual data through put. If your getting wired speeds to spec then you'll be fine.

Yes, indeed. But I didn't feel like running 20 meters of lan cable to get it upstairs, so I bought a wifi router. But yeah my options are clear now, and I know a bit more about routers than I did before.

Once again -  sincere thanks for helping me with this Furry!

One suggestion if you need additional signal upstairs and avoid additional wires, Try installing a Power Line adapters then install a stand alone AP up stairs.
Or get a range extender...
