Thanks for the quick reply. It's not recording any video, it just streaming video from my cameras.

My cameras are idle normally but as soon as I power up the DNR-202L and it initializes on my network, the cameras start sending video streams to it.

My router is a ASUS RT-AC1200G. My living room camera connects through a DLink access point (DAP-1330). My other camera is connected to my router.


I'm in Canada. Firmware is 2.04.03 Device pack is 2.14.02

What are the model# of these cameras?
Have you checked these cameras configurations for video and motion settings? If the DNR is OFF and the cameras are still streaming and using bandwidth, Then I would start at the cameras. If these are D-Link cameras, are they associated with mydlink.com?

Correct. Video will be streamed to the DNR. This is how the option to record x number of seconds before a motion trigger has been set off works.

Camera configuration is correct for both, set to motion detection on a schedule. Cameras only stream continuously with the DNR-202L up and running.

Camera one is DCS-936L

Camera two is DCS-930L

Both are associated with the web portal


Edit: alright, thanks.  Guess I will disconnect the DNR-202L until I need it because I don't want my wireless bandwidth consumed 24/7

The bandwidth consumption should not be that much, especially with 2 cameras. What are you using to see that the cameras are streaming?

I have a network switch in my living room that is hardwired to my router upstairs. The access point is connected to the switch. I use an AP because I live in a condo and the concrete and rebar make it too difficult to get a robust wireless signal downstairs.

The other night (the day I installed the DNR-202L), I noticed a lot of activity on the switch (with the access point port).

When I investigated, I found that it was my living room camera streaming video. The blue circle on the DNR-202L continually flashes as well indicating that it is receiving traffic.

The activity on the switch ceased as soon as I disconnected the DNR-202L.

Edit: I'll experiment with it then, if the bandwidth is low, then I'll keep it live. I just didnt want the video streams to interfere with Netflix, Xbox etc. if they could be shut off until needed.

It is normal, not just with D-Link. Cameras are known for using a lot of bandwidth unfortunately. Make sure you are using mpeg4 (or h.264) for better compression.

Is it causing drops on your wireless network?

Also, explain your network topology. Are you using the 1330 as a range extender (wireless to the router and clients) or AP (hardwired to the router, wireless clients)?

Are both cameras connecting to the extender?

I haven't noticed any drops in my wireless network yet however I've only had the DNR-202L a few days and it's been disconnected for most of that time. I bought it mainly to record video while I'm away from home in case I get broken into. In that case the bandwidth issue is moot.

I'm using my 1330 as an access point, mainly for my cell phone and occasionally tablet computers while I'm downstairs. My switch connects my TV, Xbox, network audio player and AP to my router through a very long CAT-7 cable running up my stairwell

Only one camera connects to my AP, my other camera is close enough to my stairs to get a good signal from my router.

Ok you shouldnt have any issues since most of your devices are Ethernet. If you were using the 1330 as an extender, had both cameras connected to it and if your netflix streaming device (xbox and/or tv) were also wirelessly connected to the 1330 you may see some minor issues. 

For users with a lot of cameras, we recommend getting an access point (hardwired to router) and try to connect only cameras to it to free up wireless bandwidth on their router. So your setup is pretty ideal.

Forgot to ask.

I assume that if I am setting up the DNR-202L to record video on a event schedule, then the schedules set in the individual cameras are moot and can be deleted?

I would presume the DNR scheduling would take precedence...
