Static Addressing?!
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:36:08 PM »

I have a network with a /29 assigned to a bridge on a layer 3 switch.

When I connect the switch I have to use a /16 subnet mask for the swithces addressing on a /24 subnet in order for the switch to respond and be accessible on the network.

Anyone have any idea why? I've don't understand the logic and this is the only device I've ever had a problem with.

Other switches being used are DLink (DGS 1210-24), Trendnet, HP and MikroTik. The only switch that has this unique problem is the Dlink DES 1210 28P.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under switch.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded?
  • What region are you located?

I'd review the specs on this particular model switch to see if there is any information regarding configuration support for the network application you need it for.

Could be some configuration maybe as well, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Maybe not supporting as the other switches are. Some feature may differ from other Mfr switches or compatibility with other branded switches. I tend to stay with one brand of switch to continuity reasons.

Let us know how it goes please.

Hi,

according to the manual you should be able to configure any subnet mask no matter what method you use, see

  • page 15, when using SmartConsole Utility
  • page 21, when using Smart Wizard
  • page 28, when using manual configuration
