Ok that is the speed package, what I'm looking for is the actual physical connection rate of the plug port with the cable that comes from the node to the WAN port of this router. What does your ISP support on the cable plug connection? 10, 100 or 1000Mb?

Ok, so if they support 1000Mb, it could be that the 605L is having some speeds issues since it only supports 100Mb at the WAN port. This could be a bottle neck at this choke point. There are other in-expensive DIR series models that are supporting of 1000Mb WAN port speeds. Starting with the DIR-636L.

hmm .. no, let me explain:
the network that reaches my router is wired for 100mbps (2 pairs) because there's a telephone line on one of the other pairs, split before it reaches my router

since we're talking, I have a question related to 605L's Wireless: what's the maximum speed over 802.11n?

I have a HP Pavilion 15-n000sq: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5449858 latest drivers for everything
and no matter what I try, I can't get it over 80mbps - Intel Wireless-N 7260

at 1st I thought .. ok, the HDD is slow and that's the issue
but, I created a 2GB sized RAM-Disk (around 1GBps read&writes) and copied to and from that RAM-Disk - thus no bottlenecks, but it still averaged ~80mbps

Actually thats very good for wireless. Especially if your using single mode N, WPA2 and AES only.

it's back ... and this time I have a clue on what's causing it

it's been what, ~11 days since the router works non-stop
I did a speed test almost every day with solid results, until this morning

went to router's Status Page and wanted to take a look at the log - the router rebooted by itself
my guess is that the log doesn't overwrites itself properly once it reaches max memory and causes malfunctions in the FW's operation

Can you temporarily disable the logs and test this again?

Under Maintenance, do you have a feature called Log Settings?

yeah there is, but ... the only option there: Save Log File To Local Hard Drive  :-[

really loved my, now dead, DDWRT FW router - had an option to offload the log daily to a log server or to e-mail

You should see check boxes there. Can you post a picture if what yours looks like? I looked at the User Manual and I see check boxes. You might be able to un-check them maybe.

I think over all this may need a phone chat with your regional D-Link support office. Either a bug or a HW problem on your router....

Wow, User Manual is wrong then. Ya, i'd contact D-Link support, ask for level 2 or higher.

Have you loaded the FW version located here?
http://www.dlink.com/ro/ro/support/product/dir-605l-wireless-n-300-home-cloud-router?revision=deu_revb

I'll contact someone at D-Link in your region to see if they can help point you in the right direction for support.
