WAN Port will not connect at 100 mbps, only 10 mbps
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:25:24 PM »

Hi,

Recently bought a DIR-605L (Hardware version B1, Firmware version 2.02) and noticed my download speeds were a bit slow and decided to investigate. On the routers System Check page is says Internet is 10 Mbps FULL Duplex, which is the problem(Should be 20 mbps from ISP). I have already attempted getting help from the live chat, and the person was of little help, only said that there may be a throughput issue from my ISP?(or something like that) No idea what that means..

Help please?  :)

Edit: Forgot to mention I have done a factory reset.
Also, My ISP is Eastlink, ISP Modem info: Motorola SBG6580, unsure about firmware version
Oh and I'm in Canada :)

Link>Welcome!

Being that the ISP modem has a Gb WAN port speed support and your using a DIR-605L, it should at least connect at 100. Try setting the WAN port speed to 100Mb under Advanced/Advanced Networking.

I would recommend getting a DIR series router with GB Wan port speed support to work with the SB 6 series ISP modem. Also that is a modem/router so it has a built in router already...it would be best to either use that as your main host router and connect a Gb support D-Link DAP model to the the modem for better Wifi or bridge the ISP modem and use a external router that supports Gb WAN port speeds, like the DIR-826L or DIR-645/655 for starters...The low end 6 series model routers don't support Gb speeds on the WAN port.

I have tried at least 3-4 different cables and its always the same result. If I force it to 100 mbps in the routers interface then it never gets a connection, no matter how long I let it sit there, I have also tried all of the ports on the modem. We have 2 older d'link router that I tried as well, and they have no problem connecting at 100 mbps either, it really is confusing. Whats worse is that I cannot return this router for a refund, otherwise I would. The only options I see are to get a replacement through dlink, or get a new modem from my ISP and hope the problem goes away..

I'm not sure if its related or not but in the router log it says this(I looked up one of the IPs and apparently it belongs to Google..) :

Quote
Feb 11 15:58:44   Whole System ACK Flood Attack from WAN Rule:Default deny
Feb 11 15:57:44    Per-source ACK Flood Attack Detect (ip=74.125.226.99) Packet Dropped

I am going to get in touch with a friend and see if I can set it up at his place using his internet(different ISP) and see if its the same result, if so, then I will figure out how in the world I request a replacement through dlink.

Something else I noticed is that EVERY device in my house with a ethernet port all have 8 pins, and this router only has 4 pins, That seems a little odd, no?

Let us know what the results of testing at a different location.

I'd input the IP address its getting from the ISP modem into the ISP modems DMZ and try that.

Possible that the router is faulty or not compatible. 4? Ya there should be more pins I believe.

You might try to sell this router or hand off to someone who can use it then get into something with Gb WAN port speeds support.  :-\

I'm not going to pawn this router off on someone else, especially if it is actually defective. Also, I don't feel we have the need for a gb router as we only get 20 mbps from our ISP and only 1 computer in the house has a gb ethernet port. When we first bought this router we were in another city, isp, etc, but the internet there is slow anyway so we never noticed any speed difference, so there was no need to check anything router wise expect configure it. I also just update the firmware to 2.03 and there is no change. Something tells me that the router is defective or not compatible with our ISP (WHICH WOULD MAKE NO SENSE!). I contacted our ISP and we can get a new modem from them at no charge so I'm also going to try that, hopefully something with work, otherwise this thing is a 25$(on sale) brick and complete waste of money that is going to go and rot away slowly in a landfill somewhere..  >:(

Grrrr, I also forgot to mention that I cant seem to access the modems interface, therefor I cant enter the IP into the DMZ

ISP may lock out users from the modem page.

Good Luck.
