Title: DIR-816L hardware B1 - firmware 2.06 -wifi disconnect
Post by: happyhere on April 02, 2016, 04:34:52 AM
I have 2 of these DIR-816L router with hardare version B1 and firmware 2.06 (different home)

Issue: Device needs to disconnect from wifi and reconnect again to have internet.

I noticed that if my device (e.g. iphone, ipad, laptop) is connected to wifi for too long, there will be no more internet connection but able to login to admin page 192.168.0.1.
Solution is for the device (iphone/ipad) to disconnect wifi or switch from 2Ghz/5Ghz and then it will have internet again.

This is happening to both DIR-816L.  most likely a firmware issue.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

What is the Mfr and model of the main host router and ISP modem?
Please provide feedback to my original post and give answers to some of the questions presented.

After 10 months, I gave up, my solution was to replace 816L router
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66057.0

@Furry, I followed your suggestion. nothing worked and 99% of my wifi-device have difficulty on reconnecting.

816L wifi disconnect issue can easily be reproduced: (happens everyday to me)
1. Rev B, firmware 2.06
2. Restart both modem and 816L router same time.
3. wireless clients (e.g. iphone on iOS8,9,10 and HP laptop) will loose wifi connection and cannot reconnect to 816L
4. Temp solution:  On iPhone, manually switch to another SSID (if on 2.4ghz of 816L, use the 5ghz, or vice versa)
5. Temp solution to switch WIFI network need for Apple TV3.  toooo cumbersome and some people (old folks) dont  know how to  switch wifi network.

Any status on this?  ???

What wireless modes are you using on the router? Manual mode is recommended. Same goes for security mode, manual WPA2 and AES only, not mixed.
If you have 5Ghz supporting devices, 5Ghz can be used more often than 2.4Ghz.

Using only wireless-N WPA2 and AES (no TKIP for this router), tried hardcoding to Channel 1 / 6/ 11 or Auto, 20Mhz.
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz have both the same issue.

Not using torrent, just few clients - apple TV3 , 2 iphone, 1 ipad, 1 laptop, 2 ip cam that is barely active, 1 nas.

dir-816L replaced my aging dir-655.  it was a regret :)
