hey bro. how are you? i just joined after reading through the many forms here while i had my dir-655. your information helped me a alot to set that up nicely and it ran great for the past 8 years i've had it. recently i started losing bandwidth while having a 15mb/2mb plan. i bought a motorola surfboard sb6141 modem and the dir-865L router. it came with 1.01 firmware. out of the box i set it up with only N because all of my devices are N (both on the 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz channels). i have no AC devices so i left that alone. it's working great so far. i'm getting consistent 14+mb speeds download and over 1.8-3.0 mb upload - also with two repeaters setup. both 2.4 ghz and 5ghz work excellent with the speed.

now my main question- should i update the firmware to the new 1.03? after just setting up everything i forgot to update firmware first, lol. i know you can save file configuration settings, but not too sure how to do that. i don't want to lose my settings and then have to reconfigure the repeaters all over again. what do you think? thanks :)

I would review the release notes of this version and see if your effected by anything listed. If not, i recommend keeping what is currently loaded. I'm still using the same version it came in box with, v1.01. It's always not recommended to have the latest and greatest FW version. If it works, don't fix it! It's up to you however.

Keep us posted and enjoy.

i agree with you 100%. on my dir-655, i had A3, 1.11 (default firmware it came with) and never upgraded. It ran like a champ for many years. I just felt like finally upgrading to something new since I was updating to a newer modem. So far so good...so I won't be upgrading until I run into some issues. They say 2.4Ghz has speed improvements on 1.02 but I seem to get consistent speeds just fine on 2.4Ghz (13-14.5mbps consistently). Anyway, thanks for the reply, man. Glad to be here!

DIR-865L disconnect clients after renewing IP address

I just bought a DIR-865L replaceing a DIR-655. Did upgrade to v1.03 FW and has now installed but I have found a problem wich I dont know if its related to this firmware.

Problem is that the router disconnect the devices connected to it once every hours after it has renewed the lease time of the IP address (my ISP has set this to 3600 secs). I have talked to my ISP and they confirm this is their standard time.  I have also switched back to my old DIR-655 and that router is not disconnecting the clients after renewing the lease time.

The problem is that when you watch a movie on a SMARTV  it stops the movie and you have to start from the beginning again.  Same thing if you use a Squeeze box radio, it stops once every hour.  I have tried to give them fixed IP's via the router but it makes no difference

This is what it looks like on the log:

Sun Apr 14 16:28:30 2013   Time synchronized
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [3C:E0:72:B4:2E:DF] associated from BAND5G-1.1 (5 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [34:C0:59:5A:67:34] associated from BAND5G-1.1 (5 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [0C:77:1A:CD:99:56] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [00:04:20:27:E2:D2] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [98:0C:82:77:FB:16] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:27 2013   Got new client [1C:4B:D6:E0:03:D6] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)
Sun Apr 14 16:28:25 2013   DHCP: Client receive ACK from 83.xxx.xx.1, IP=83.xxx.xx.xx6, Lease time=3600.
Sun Apr 14 16:28:25 2013   DHCP: Client send REQUEST, Request IP 83.xxx.xx.xx6 from 83.xxx.xx.1.
Sun Apr 14 16:28:25 2013   DHCP: Client receive OFFER from 83.xxx.xx.1.
Sun Apr 14 16:28:24 2013   DHCP: Client send DISCOVER.

As you can see its also synchronizing time once every hour because of this.

Any one who has got the same problem and what did you do to fix it?

/Mike

Link>Welcome!

What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed before and after you updated FW and set up from scratch?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Link>Welcome!

Update:
Now works great. Had a reply from D-Link in Sweden that gave me a link to firmware 1.04 but that wasn't really the problem. The thing that did the trick was ticking the box saying "Use Unicasting". In Setup/Internet. Now the connection up time is over 1 day 23 hours  :)

Thanks anyway
