How do you connect to GogoInFlight Internet?
« on: April 24, 2016, 10:58:52 AM »

Just bought a DIR-510L preloaded with firmware 1.06 and did a few successful connection tests at home before hitting the road.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to connect to the wifi on the plane however. A few interesting observations:

When I connect to the DIR-510L using my iPhone, the device throws up the admin mobile UI page. I can see the "gogoinflight" SSID when scanning from the mobile UI "Internet" page. When I connect, the wifi LED on the unit blinks orange and never changes. Presume that means it's not connecting. Can't visit any pages including airborne.gogoonflight.com which is usually the only page your can get to in order to purchase the wifi. Alas, no connection.

I rebooted the devices and then connected to the DIR-510L in desktop mode using both mobile safari and mobile Chrome. From the desktop view in either browser the DIR-510L doesn't see the gogoinflight wifi network at all when scanning. Going back to the mobile admin UI gogoinflight shows up fine (still won't connect though). This was strange not seeing the network in the scan in desktop mode. I also tried creating a custom internet profile and hand typing the SSID in this mode too but to no avail.

Does the scanning behavior indicate why the device won't connect to gogoinflight? Or did Gogo just figure out how to block devices like these?

Anyone had luck using their DIR-510L to connect to gogoinflight?  Any special steps?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

You might contact the ISP and ask them what they allow on there networks and see. Possible that they are blocking 2ndary extender devices.

Review the manual for connection method information as well. I presume if the 510L works at home and not with this particular mobile ISP, then it's possible that it's an ISP issue.
